How to Install and Configure a Panduit G6 PDU
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Panduit G6 Metered, Switched, and Metered & Switched Power Distribution Units into a datacenter rack, including physical mounting, power connections, and initial configuration.
Tools needed:
Phillips screwdriver, Torx screwdriver, USB Drive
Supplies needed:
Tie wraps, Ground bonding cable (if required), Input cord plug (for Universal Input PDUs)
- Mount the PDU to the Rack
Use only the hardware provided to install the PDU. Determine the desired mounting orientation (outlets facing center, back, or front of the rack). Align and install the mounting buttons with the appropriate screw holes on the PDU (either on the face opposite the outlets or on the sides). Install the PDU by inserting the mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the PDU mounting bracket in the rack. Ensure the PDU is securely attached.
- Attach the Input Cord to Universal Input PDUs (if applicable)
This step applies only to Universal Input PDUs. Open the input cord connector latches on the PDU. Insert the facility-side input cord plug into the universal input connector. Close the input cord connector latches on the PDU to securely lock the input cord into the connector.
- Ground the PDU
Ensure a reliable grounded (earthed) connection before connecting power distribution products to AC power to reduce the risk of electric shock due to high leakage currents. For permanently connected PDUs, installation must be performed by a licensed electrician. Locate the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis (typically on the surface with outlets, or with circuit breakers for dual-sided models). Connect a ground bonding cable from this point to a grounding strip, grounding bus bar, or a known earthed reference terminal in the building. Ensure the bonding conductor meets minimum requirements (e.g., 12 AWG for up to 32A, 8 AWG for up to 63A).
- Connect the PDU to a Power Source
Always follow local and national codes. Connect only to a circuit providing branch circuit overcurrent protection of appropriate current rating. Ensure devices connected to the PDU are capable of operation from the same line voltage. Turn the feed circuit breaker for the power source to the "Off" position. Verify that all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to the "On" position. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded (earthed) branch circuit electrical outlet that is near the equipment and easily accessible. Turn the feed circuit breaker for the power source to the "On" position. Observe the OLED screen (if present); it will display a status bar during loading, then the Main Menu. Switched and Monitored & Switched PDUs will show a light for each outlet as it powers up.
- Configure Universal Input PDU Input Type via Web Interface (if applicable)
This step applies only to Universal Input PDUs. If the incorrect input cord is selected, the PDU may meter data incorrectly and show an incorrect power rating. Connect to the PDU's Web interface (refer to the User Manual for connection instructions). Navigate to the "System Management" page under "Settings". Select "Set Input Cord" under "Actions". From the "Cord Type Pull Down" menu, select the correct cord type corresponding to your facility-side input cord. Select "Save"; the PDU will reset to apply the new configuration.
- Secure Power Cords (Optional)
For C13 and C19 outlets with integrated cord retention, plug in the power cord. Using the provided tie wraps, slide one end into the notch on the PDU next to the desired outlet and wrap it around the power cord. Secure the tie wrap to prevent accidental disconnects.
