How to Install and Configure a Panduit G5 PDU
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and initially configuring a Panduit G5 Power Distribution Unit (PDU) in a datacenter rack, covering mounting, grounding, power connection, and universal input setup.

Supplies needed:
Mounting buttons (for vertical PDU installation), Cage nuts (for 1U/2U PDU installation), Tie wraps (for power cord retention), Ground bonding cable
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
Secure the PDU to the datacenter rack using the appropriate mounting hardware for its form factor (vertical, 1U, or 2U). For vertical PDUs, install mounting buttons onto the PDU and then insert them into the keyhole slots on the rack's PDU mounting bracket. For 1U or 2U PDUs, install cage nuts at the desired U location in the rack, then screw the PDU's mounting bracket ears into the RETMA rail surface where the cage nuts were installed.
- Establish a Reliable Ground Connection
WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock due to high leakage currents, ensure a reliable grounded (earthed) connection before connecting the PDU to AC power. Connect a ground bonding cable from the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis to a known earthed reference terminal in the building or to the rack's grounding strip/bus bar. Ensure the bonding conductor meets minimum requirements based on the PDU's current rating (e.g., 12 AWG for up to 32A, 8 AWG for up to 63A).
- Attach Input Cord to Universal Input Connector (if applicable)
If installing a Universal Input PDU, open the input cord connector latches on the PDU. Insert the facility-side input cord plug fully into the connector, then close the latches to securely lock the input cord into place.
- Connect the PDU to a Power Source
WARNING: A risk of personal injury from electric shock and hazardous energy levels exists. This procedure must be performed by individuals knowledgeable about AC power products. 1. Turn OFF the feed circuit breaker for the branch circuit. 2. Ensure all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to the ON position. 3. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded (earthed) electrical outlet or dedicated branch circuit. 4. Turn ON the feed circuit breaker for the branch circuit. 5. Verify the PDU powers on. The OLED screen (if present) will display the Main Menu after loading, and Switched/Monitored & Switched PDUs will show lights corresponding to powered-up outlets.
