This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the physical installation, grounding, power connection, and initial configuration of Panduit G5 Power Distribution Units (PDUs) in a datacenter rack.

- Prepare and Mount the PDU
Before starting, review all safety information, especially regarding lethal voltages and the requirement for knowledgeable personnel. Install the appropriate mounting hardware for your PDU form factor. For vertical PDUs, install mounting buttons on the PDU. For 1U/2U PDUs, install cage nuts in the rack. Then, mount the PDU by inserting buttons into keyhole slots or screwing mounting bracket ears into the RETMA rail. Ensure the PDU is securely fastened and do not overload it.
- Ground the PDU and Attach Universal Input Cord (if applicable)
Connect a ground bonding cable from the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis to a known earthed reference terminal or the rack's grounding strip. If installing a Universal Input PDU, open the input cord connector latches, insert the input cord plug, and then close the latches to lock the cord securely.
- Connect PDU to Power Source and Initial Configuration
Turn the feed circuit breaker OFF. Ensure all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to ON. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated branch circuit. Turn the feed circuit breaker ON. If installing a Universal Input PDU, connect to the PDU's Web interface, navigate to 'System Management', select 'Set Input Cord', choose the correct cord type, and click 'Save'. For dual-rated PDUs, refer to the User Manual for CLI configuration.
