How to Install and Configure a Panduit G6 PDU
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Panduit G6 Metered, Switched, and Metered & Switched Power Distribution Units (PDUs) into a datacenter rack, including mounting, wiring, and initial configuration.

Mounting buttons, Tie wraps, Ground bonding cable, Star washer, Facility side input cord (for Universal Input PDUs)
- Review Safety Information and Prepare
Before beginning, thoroughly read all safety information in the Panduit G6 PDU Installation Manual. Ensure that only qualified personnel perform the installation. Verify that the branch circuit overcurrent protection is appropriate for the PDU's current rating. Turn OFF the feed circuit breaker for the branch circuit before proceeding with any connections.
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
Align and install the mounting buttons into the screw holes on the PDU. Choose the face opposite the outlets for installation with outlets facing the center of the rack, or the sides for installation with outlets facing the back or front of the rack. Insert the mounting buttons into the keyhole slots on the PDU mounting bracket in the rack to securely attach the PDU.
- Connect the Universal Input Cord (if applicable)
If you are installing a Universal Input PDU, open the input cord connector latches on the PDU. Insert the facility side input cord plug firmly into the connector until it is fully seated. Close the input cord connector latches on the PDU to lock the cord securely in place.
- Ground the PDU Chassis
Connect a ground bonding cable from the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis to a known earthed reference terminal in the building or to the rack's grounding strip/bus bar. Use the provided external earthing screw and star washer to ensure a secure and reliable connection. Refer to the PDU label for the exact location of the ground bonding point.
- Connect to Main Power
WARNING: Ensure the feed circuit breaker for the branch circuit is OFF before making connections. Verify all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to ON. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated and grounded branch circuit. Once the PDU is connected, turn the feed circuit breaker ON. The PDU's OLED screen (if equipped) will display a status bar during the operating system loading process, then the Main Menu will appear.
- Configure Universal Input PDU Type (if applicable)
NOTE: Selecting the incorrect input cord type may result in incorrect metering data and power rating display. For Universal Input PDUs, access the PDU's Web interface. Navigate to the 'System Management' page under 'Settings'. Select 'Set Input Cord' under 'Actions', then choose the correct cord type from the dropdown menu based on your facility side plug and region. Select 'Save' to apply the changes; the PDU will reset.
- Secure Connected Device Power Cords
Plug your IT equipment power cords into the PDU outlets. For outlets with integrated cord retention, use the provided tie wraps. Slide the tie wrap end into the notch next to the outlet, wrap it around the power cord, and secure it to prevent accidental disconnects. Optional locking power cords can also be used for enhanced security on C13 and C19 outlets.
