Copper Compression Connector (LCDXN500), 500 kcmil Copper Wire, Heat Shrink Tubing (appropriate size for 500 kcmil wire)
- Prepare Wire and Select Connector
Select an LCDXN500 copper compression connector for 500 kcmil copper wire. Strip 1-9/16 inches of insulation from the 500 kcmil copper wire, ensuring not to nick or ring the conductor strands. Clean the stripped wire thoroughly.
- Crimp the Copper Compression Connector
Insert the stripped 500 kcmil copper wire into the LCDXN500 connector until it stops. Using a compatible Panduit crimp tool (e.g., CT-920 series) and the CD-920-500A (Pink P99) crimp die, perform two crimps. Place the first crimp near the tongue of the lug or wire stop and successive crimps towards the wire entry, evenly spacing them along the barrel. After crimping, inspect for and remove any sharp edges, flash, or burrs.
- Insulate with Heat Shrink Tubing
Cut heat shrink tubing to a length that allows for desired insulation coverage, ensuring a minimum of 1-1/2 inches overlap onto the wire insulation. Position the tubing over the crimped connector and the adjacent wire insulation. Using a standard propane torch or heat gun, shrink the tubing by moving the heat from the crimped portion of the connector towards the insulated wire. Continue heating until adhesive flow at the ends indicates complete shrinkage.
