How to Install LCDX350-12H-6 Copper Compression Connectors

Instructions for installing copper compression connectors and heat shrink insulation.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Crimp tool (refer to tool chart for specific model), Wire strippers, Propane torch or heat gun

Supplies needed:

Copper compression connector, Heat shrink tubing

  1. Select the Correct Connector and Wire

Choose a connector marked for the wire size and material. Never use a copper connector on aluminum wire.

  2. Prepare the Wire

Strip the wire insulation to the approximate length specified in the tool chart. Ensure the conductor strands are not nicked or ringed. Clean the wire.

  3. Insert Wire into Connector

Insert the stripped wire into the connector until it reaches the stop.

  4. Crimp the Connector

Using the tool chart, select the appropriate crimp tool and die. Crimp the connector by placing the first crimp near the tongue of the lug or wire stop, and then place successive crimps working towards the wire entry. Evenly space crimps using the barrel stripes as a guide.

  5. Inspect the Crimp

After crimping, inspect the connector for any sharp edges, flash, or burrs and remove them if present.

  6. Apply Heat Shrink Insulation

Cut heat shrink tubing to length, ensuring it will overlap the wire insulation by at least 1-1/2 inches. Slide the tubing over the connector and onto the wire.

  7. Shrink the Tubing

Shrink the tubing using a standard propane torch or heat gun. Move the heat source from the crimped portion of the connector towards the insulated wire. Adhesive flow at the ends indicates shrinkage is complete.
