Copper compression connectors, Heat shrink tubing

  1. Select the correct connector

    Choose a connector that is marked for the appropriate wire size and material. Ensure you do not use a copper conductor on aluminum wire.

  2. Prepare the wire

    Strip the wire insulation to the length specified in the tool chart, ensuring not to nick or damage the conductor strands.

  3. Insert and crimp the connector

    Insert the stripped wire into the connector until it stops. Use the appropriate crimping tool to crimp the connector between the color bands or knurl markings, following the required number of compressions.

  4. Inspect the crimp

    After crimping, inspect the connection for any sharp edges, flash, or burrs and remove them if present.

  5. Apply heat shrink insulation

    Cut the heat shrink tubing to the desired length, allowing for a minimum of 1.5 inches of overlap on the wire insulation. Shrink the tubing using a heat gun or propane torch, moving from the crimped portion of the connector toward the insulated wire until adhesive flow at the ends indicates completion.
