Overview

The Panduit FST144R Fiber Splice Tray Kit, SKU FST144R, is engineered to manage up to 12 ribbon fiber fusion splices, accommodating a total of 144 fibers. This robust kit is specifically designed for seamless integration into Panduit's FRMHSS-4RU and FRMHSST-4RU 4RU Splice Enclosures, as well as the FWMHSS*S-3456 and FWMHSS*S-6912 Wall Mount Fiber Splice Enclosures. The tray supports up to 24 x 900μm fibers with heat shrink splice protectors, featuring a design that allows for multi-directional routing of entry and exit fibers, enabling both vertical and horizontal mounting. It meticulously maintains a 30mm bend radius, which is optimal for 250μm or 900μm fiber types. Internal cable management provides multiple routing options, including crossover capabilities, while pivoting splice holders ensure uninterrupted control of fiber during the splicing process. A built-in fiber pick facilitates the withdrawal of individual fibers. The tray is stackable with a built-in hinge for easy access and includes a transparent lid secured by a hinge and latch. Cable tie points are provided for securing fiber at entry and exit points. Mounting is versatile, achievable via a center hole, DIN style holes, or a double-sided foam adhesive pad. This tray is also compatible with Molex CES 1U/2U/4U 19” standard fiber enclosures. Loose tube cable management is facilitated by adjustable tube grips at each corner, which prevent over-compression and eliminate the need for cable ties. The FST144R accepts both mechanical and fusion splices. Fusion Splice Protectors are available in 45mm and 61mm lengths. Manufactured in the US, this splice tray kit is a reliable component for high-density fiber optic installations.

How to Install the FST144R Splice Tray Kit

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the FST144R Splice Tray Kit for optimal fiber management.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Cable ties, Heat shrink tubing, Grommets, Splice protectors

  1. Mount the splice tray

Secure the FST144R splice tray to the designated location using the provided mounting screws. Ensure it is level and firmly attached.

  2. Prepare the fiber

Route the fiber into the splice tray from any of the four corners. Use protective transport tubing to cover the fiber outside the splice tray.

  3. Install splice protectors

For 12 fiber ribbons, install splice protectors in every other mounting groove of the splice holder. Ensure that splice protectors and heat shrink tubing are placed over the fiber before splicing.

  4. Secure the fiber

Place grommets over the ribbons and secure the fiber to the splice tray using cable ties. Ensure that the bend radius of the fibers is maximized.

  5. Heat shrink the tubing

Cut 2-inch sections of heat shrink tubing and place them over the grommet and transport tubing. Use a heat source to shrink the tubing and secure the transport tubing to the grommet.
