Overview

The Panduit FSDR912Y is a 12-fiber indoor distribution cable featuring 9µm OS2 single-mode fiber. Designed for riser (OFNR) applications, this cable utilizes 900µm buffered fibers to enhance protection and maintain signal integrity within indoor network environments. Its OFNR riser rating ensures compliance with fire safety standards for vertical cable runs in buildings. The OS2 single-mode fiber specification supports high-speed data transmission over extended distances, making it suitable for demanding applications in data centers, enterprise networks, and telecommunications infrastructure. The cable's construction incorporates tight-buffered fibers, contributing to its durability and simplifying termination processes. The riser-rated jacket provides essential flame resistance for vertical installations. This Panduit cable, SKU FSDR912Y, offers reliable connectivity and scalability for modern network infrastructure. Manufactured in the US, it adheres to stringent quality standards.

How to Install Fiber Optic Indoor Tight-Buffered Cable

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for preparing and installing fiber optic indoor tight-buffered cables, including cable preparation, pulling procedures, and fiber preparation.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Sheath knife, Wire stripping tool, Scissors/Snips, Needle nose pliers, Linesmen pliers, Utility knife

Supplies needed:

Rip cord, Vinyl electrical tape, Friction tape, Strength member yarns

  1. Prepare the cable

Using a sheath knife, ring the circumference of the jacket about six to eight inches from the end of the cable. Gently flex the cable at the cut to separate and remove the outer jacket.

  2. Remove the rip cord

Grasp the rip cord with needle nose pliers and pull it back to the first predetermined ring cut. Carefully separate the strength member yarns from the core and cut them to the length prescribed by local practices.

  3. Strip the tight-buffered fiber

Using an approved stripping tool, score the 900μm diameter tight-buffered coating without touching the 125μm diameter of the fiber. Strip and remove two inches or less at a time to avoid damaging the fiber.
