How to Install the FSCRIBE Fiber Optic Connector

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the FSCRIBE Fiber Optic Connector, including preparation, termination, and polishing procedures.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Tweezers, Heat Shrink Curing Tool, Carbide Scribe, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Anaerobic Adhesive, Primer, Polishing Film, Dust Caps, Heat Shrink Tubing, Cleaning Swabs, Isopropyl Alcohol

  1. Prepare Adhesive and Primer

Remove the plunger from a syringe and squeeze about 0.5ml of FJPXY Anaerobic Adhesive into the back of the syringe barrel. Insert the plunger, point the opening upward, and squeeze any air out of the barrel before attaching the needle.

  2. Strip the Fiber Cable

Using the buffer stripper tool, carefully strip the buffer from the fiber cable, exposing the bare fiber. Ensure to remove no more than 1/4" (6.4mm) of buffer at a time to avoid breaking the fiber.

  3. Attach Ferrule to Fiber

Clean the bare fiber using an alcohol-soaked lint-free wipe. Apply primer onto the bare fiber and the first 1/8" (3.2mm) of the buffer. Insert the fiber into the ferrule assembly, ensuring it fits properly.

  4. Apply Adhesive

Insert the needle of the adhesive-filled syringe into the rear of the connector assembly and gently apply pressure on the plunger until a small bead of adhesive forms on the front tip of the ferrule. Wait 3 seconds before removing the needle.

  5. Cleave the Fiber

Using a carbide scribe, make a small score mark across the bare fiber just above the endface of the ferrule. Pull the fiber away from the ferrule and discard it properly.

  6. Polish the Fiber

Rub the cleaved fiber stub against a piece of 5μm Aluminum Oxide polishing film in a circular motion until the end of the fiber is even with the end of the ferrule. Clean the polishing puck and pad after use.

  7. Cure Heat Shrink Tubing

Turn on the heat shrink curing tool and hold the connector in the hot air stream, rotating it for 20-30 seconds until the heat shrink tubing is completely cured onto the jacket.

  8. Assemble Connector and Boot

Slide the boot over the crimp sleeve and onto the backbone, pushing it over the flange until it snaps in place.

  9. Attach Duplex Clip

Insert the connector into one side of the duplex clip, ensuring the latch is on top and the ferrule is facing away. Repeat for the other connector to complete the duplexing step.
