Overview

The Panduit FOGPX12Y is a 12-fiber, OM3, plenum-rated (OFCP) indoor/outdoor armored central tube cable designed for versatile and robust fiber optic deployments. This cable features 250µm fibers, providing excellent optical performance for data transmission. Its armored construction offers superior crush protection and defense against rodent attacks, eliminating the need for additional conduit or innerduct in many installations, leading to significant material and labor cost savings of up to 25%. The interlocking armor configuration further enhances its durability and ease of installation. Utilizing dry water blocking technology with super absorbent polymers instead of traditional gels, the FOGPX12Y meets stringent water blocking requirements while simplifying handling and reducing cleanup. This cable is ideal for applications requiring a single solution for both indoor and outdoor environments without compromising mechanical or optical integrity. The plenum rating (OFCP) ensures compliance with stringent fire safety standards for use in air-handling spaces. Panduit's commitment to quality is evident in this cable, manufactured in the USA. The FOGPX12Y is compatible with OM3 laser-optimized multimode fiber standards, supporting high-speed data rates. Its central tube design encapsulates the fibers, providing a secure and stable environment for signal transmission. This cable is a key component for backbone, data center, and horizontal installations where reliability and performance are paramount. The SKU FOGPX12Y signifies a high-quality fiber optic solution engineered for demanding environments.

How to Prepare Fiber Optic Indoor/Outdoor Stranded Loose Tube Cable

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the preparation of fiber optic cables, including sheath removal, core preparation, and fiber preparation.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Eye and Hand Protection, Approved Cable Cutters, Needle Nose Pliers, Sheath Knife, Buffer Tube Removal Tool, Primary Coating Stripping Tool, Tape Measure, Scissors/Snips

Supplies needed:

Clean Cotton Cloths, Water Absorbent Tape, Binder Strings, Flame Barrier Tape

  1. Remove the cable sheath

Mark a length of six feet (2 meters) from the end of the cable on the outer sheath. Use a sheath knife to 'ring' the circumference of the sheath at this mark and gently flex the cable to separate the sheath. Discard the removed sheath section.

  2. Prepare the cable core

Once the outer sheath is removed, cut the ripcord and unwrap the outer strength members. Remove any water absorbent tape and binder strings from around the buffer tubes. Separate the color-coded buffer tubes from the central strength member.

  3. Prepare the buffer tubes

Check the blade setting on the buffer tube removal tool by 'ringing' a small section near the end of the tube. Measure the length of the tube to be removed, mark it, and ring the tube in 1-2 ft sections. Remove the desired amount of fiber and gently wipe any excess thixotropic gel from the exposed fiber with a clean cotton cloth.

  4. Strip the optical fibers

Using scissors, cut the fibers to be terminated at the appropriate length. Use a primary coating stripping tool to remove the 250 μm diameter coating from the fiber, followed by a single wipe with an alcohol-dampened cloth to remove any residual debris.
