Sheath knife, Wire strippers, Scissors, Needle nose pliers, Utility knife, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Fiber optic cable, Vinyl electrical tape, Ripcord, Strength member yarns
- Prepare the cable sheath
Using a sheath knife, ring the circumference of the cable jacket about six to eight inches from the end. Gently flex the cable at the cut to separate the sheath for removal.
- Remove the outer jacket
Carefully remove the outer jacket section to expose the strength member yarns and ripcord. Discard the removed jacket piece.
- Prepare the tight-buffered fibers
Using an approved stripping tool, score the 900μm diameter tight-buffered coating without touching the 125μm diameter fiber. Remove two inches or less of the coating at a time, ensuring to avoid tight bends.
- Cut the strength member yarns
Separate the strength member yarns from the tight-buffered fibers and cut them to the desired length for termination, following local practices and specifications.
- Terminate the fibers
