Overview

The Panduit FK4BJ (SKU: FK4BJ) is engineered to facilitate the transition of 900µm fiber optic cable to a 3mm jacketed fiber configuration. This build-up kit is specifically designed to manage four individual fibers, ensuring a secure and organized pathway for your optical network infrastructure. Ideal for industrial and commercial installations where cable diameters need to be standardized for compatibility with connectors, patch panels, and equipment, the FK4BJ provides a robust solution for cable management. By converting the smaller 900µm buffer to a larger, more protected 3mm jacket, this kit enhances the physical integrity of the fiber, safeguarding it against potential damage during handling and deployment. The FK Series from Panduit is recognized for its precision manufacturing and reliable performance in demanding networking environments. This kit simplifies the process of integrating different fiber cable types, contributing to efficient installation and maintaining signal integrity over the long term. Manufactured in the US, the FK4BJ offers a dependable component for building out structured cabling systems.

How to Install the FK4BJ Furcation Kit

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the FK4BJ Furcation Kit, including mounting, wiring, and initial setup.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Cable jacket stripper (CST-115), Aramid yarn cutter (FKC), Heat gun (HSG-115V-300), Marking pen (PFX-0), Utility knife, Tape measure

Supplies needed:

Four 1-meter furcation tubes, One 3” x 3/8” diameter heat shrink tube, Safety glasses

  1. Wear safety glasses

Put on safety glasses to protect your eyes from sharp optical fibers and potential laser exposure.

  2. Prepare the cables

Use the cable jacket stripper to carefully strip the outer jacket of the optical fiber cables, ensuring not to damage the inner fibers.

  3. Cut the aramid yarn

Utilize the aramid yarn cutter to cut the aramid yarn to the appropriate length as specified in the installation guide.

  4. Install furcation tubes

Insert the stripped optical fibers into the four 1-meter furcation tubes, ensuring a snug fit to prevent any damage.

  5. Apply heat shrink tube

Position the heat shrink tube over the connection points and use the heat gun to shrink it securely around the fibers.

  6. Verify connections

Check all connections to ensure they are secure and that there are no exposed fibers or loose fittings.

  7. Dispose of bare fibers safely

Carefully collect and dispose of any cut pieces of bare fiber using sticky tabs to prevent injury.
