How to Install the FCS2ZO-24-LSP Opticom LC Splice Cassette

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and splicing incoming fiber cables into the FCS2ZO-24-LSP Opticom LC Splice Cassette. Fiber optic cable is sensitive to excessive pulling, bending, and crushing forces. WARNING: UNMATED CONNECTORS MAY EMIT INVISIBLE LASER RADIATION. Maintain dust caps on unmated connectors.

Estimated time: 2h

Tools needed:

#2 Phillips screwdriver, Scissors, Fiber optic cable strippers, Fiber cleaver, Fusion splicer, Isopropyl alcohol

Supplies needed:

Pan-Ty Cable Ties, 1/4” Phillips Screws, Discreet Splice Sleeves, Dust caps, Incoming fiber optic cable

  1. Prepare the Cassette for Splicing

Push down the Cover Removal Latch in the rear of the cassette and slide the Cover back until the 4 tabs clear, then remove the cover. Squeeze the two tabs on either side of the Splice Tray inward and/or pull the Base wall outward to release the Splice Tray from the Base. Carefully remove the fiber ends from any fiber pigtails coiled in the Splice Tray and set them aside.

  2. Splice Incoming Fibers to Pigtails on the Cassette Base

Strip the incoming fiber cable outer jacket 20 inches (0.5 meters). Secure the incoming fiber cable with two provided Pan-Ty Cable Ties and cut off any excess. Optionally, secure the incoming fiber cable's Aramid yarn to the Base using the provided screw(s). Expose all fiber ends for splicing. Slide a splice sleeve onto either the pigtail or field fiber. Strip off approximately 1.375 inches (35mm) of coating from each fiber and clean with isopropyl alcohol. Cleave the fiber so that 0.400 inches (10mm) of bare fiber extends past the fiber coating. Do not clean the bare fiber after it has been cleaved, and do not let it come into contact with any surfaces. Splice the first 12 discrete fibers and heat the splice sleeve(s) according to your splicer manufacturer's best practices. Route the spliced fibers into the cassette, ensuring they are located under the Base fiber retention tabs, and secure the splice sleeves into the Splice Sleeve Holders in the Base.

  3. Splice Remaining Fibers on the Splice Tray and Reassemble

Replace the Splice Tray into the Base, ensuring no fibers previously spliced onto the base are protruding above the Base Fiber Retention Tabs. Push until an audible 'CLICK' is heard. Repeat the splicing steps from Step 2 for the remaining 12 discrete fibers on the Splice Tray. After all splicing is complete, re-install the Cassette Cover by sliding it forward until the Cover Removal Latch 'clicks' into place.

  4. Install the Cassette into a Panel or Enclosure

Install the completed cassette directly to the front of panels or enclosures by snapping the two grommets into the designated holes. Alternatively, for rear installation, use your finger to push the Bezel latch inward to release the Bezel from the cassette. After installing the cassette through the rear of the Panel or Enclosure, re-attach the Bezel and secure the grommets to the front.
