How to Install a Panduit EL2P Rack PDU
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely installing and connecting a Panduit EL2P Rack Power Distribution Unit (PDU) into a datacenter rack or cabinet, including mounting, grounding, and initial power-up procedures.

- Prepare for Safe Installation
Before beginning, ensure all circuit breakers are in the off position. Verify that the PDU and connected devices are compatible with the line voltage supplying the PDU to prevent equipment damage. Install the PDU in a temperature and humidity-controlled indoor environment, free of conductive contaminants, and ensure a reliable grounded connection to reduce electric shock risk. Do not overload the PDU; the total input current of connected equipment must not exceed the PDU's total output rating.
- Mount the PDU in the Rack
Mount the PDU securely within the rack. For vertical (0U) PDUs, insert the pre-installed mounting buttons into the keyhole slots of the rack's PDU mounting bracket and secure with a #2 Phillips screwdriver to 3.0Nm. For horizontal (1U/2U) PDUs, first install cage nuts at the desired U locations on the front and rear equipment rails. Then, screw the PDU's mounting bracket ears into these cage nuts. Ensure the PDU is level and firmly attached, adjusting mounting ear positions if required by removing and re-fastening screws.
- Ground the PDU
Connect a ground bonding cable to the external ground bonding point on the PDU chassis. Use the provided external earthing screw with a star washer for supplementary Earth bonding. Bond the PDU to a grounding strip or bus bar within the rack, or to a known earthed reference terminal in the building. Ensure the conductor size meets national or local electrical codes (e.g., 14 AWG for up to 15A, 12 AWG for up to 20A).
- Adjust Network Controller Orientation (Optional)
If a specific orientation for the network controller's physical ports is desired, use a T10 Torx screwdriver to remove the two retaining screws. Carefully disconnect the ribbon cable to prevent damage, then manually rotate the controller to the preferred orientation. Reconnect the ribbon cable, ensuring correct orientation and avoiding crimping. Finally, re-install and torque the two screws to 2.2–3.1 lbf-in [0.25–0.35 N-M], being careful not to overtighten as this may result in metal deformation.
- Connect the PDU to Power
Before connecting, ensure the feed circuit breaker for the branch circuit is in the OFF position and all circuit breakers on the PDU are set to ON. Connect the PDU's input power cord to an appropriately rated, grounded (earthed) branch circuit, adhering to all local and national electrical codes. Once connected, turn the feed circuit breaker ON and wait for the PDU's operating system to load and the Main Menu to display on the screen.
