Overview

The Polaris IPLD3/0-4C 4-Port Dual-Sided Connector provides the simplest solution for forming a secure connection between up to four conductors in applications including cable trays, panel boards, ducts, raceways or troughs. Sized for 3/0 - 6 AWG wires and rated for 600V, this pre-insulated connector comes pre-loaded with an oxide inhibitor and installs faster than traditional uninsulated connector options using just a hex key and torque wrench. The clear body lets installers see their work for optimal conductor placement and is ergonomically molded to offer a comfortable grip, in addition to being resistant to abrasion and chemicals. All-in-one design saves time and supplies on each job by eliminating the need for cover and taping; simply strip back their insulation, brush the conductors clean, insert one conductor into each port and secure the covered pressure screws. The IPLD3/0-4C connector is rated for a 90 degrees Celsius operating temperature and dual rated for use with copper and/or aluminum cables, up to max AMP ratings of 400 and 310 respectively. Polaris pre-insulated connectors are available in a range of port numbers and configurations to fit the needs of any job, including UL-listed parallel configurations. Polaris: the original pre-insulated connector and still the brand most asked for by name.
  • Clear Exterior: Vision Tap transparent design lets users see their work to ensure ideal conductor placement and the most secure connection
  • Dual-Sided Wire Entry: Form secure connections between 4 conductors quickly using the double-side entry ports sized for wires between 3/0 and 6 AWG
  • Ergonomic Design: Rounded corners and a smooth exterior finish over the abrasion-resistant plastisol insulation make Polaris connectors comfortable to grip
  • Pre-filled Oxide Inhibitor: All 4 dual-sided (DSE) entry ports are covered by removable plugs and pre-filled with an oxide inhibitor gel to protect against corrosion, debris or moisture
  • Professional Performance: The durable layer of insulation on each Polaris connector is UV, abrasion and chemical-resistant for reliable performance

How to Install Black & Vision Tap Wire Connectors

Install and terminate conductors in Black & Vision Tap® connectors by stripping, cleaning, inserting, and torquing the pressure screws to the specified values. Follow the wire-size chart and safety notes to ensure a secure, code-compliant connection.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire stripper, Wire brush, Hex key or Allen wrench sized to the connector, Torque wrench or torque screwdriver

Supplies needed:

Black & Vision Tap® connector, Conductors/wires, Oxide inhibitor gel (pre-filled in connector)

  1. Select the correct connector and strip the wire

Choose the connector size that matches the conductor size and strip the insulation according to the chart for that connector. Verify the stripped length is correct before installation.

  2. Clean oxidized conductors

Inspect the conductor ends and, if oxidation is present, clean the conductor with a wire brush before insertion. Use caution and de-energize the circuit before working on any wiring.

  3. Insert conductors into separate ports

Insert each conductor into a different connector port. Make sure the wire insulation on a properly installed conductor extends at least 3/8 inch into the connector port.

  4. Tighten the pressure screws to specification

Secure the pressure screws using the correct hex key and tighten them to the torque value specified for the connector and wire size. Do not overtighten or leave screws loose.

  5. Verify the installation

Confirm the conductors are fully seated, the insulation extends into the port as required, and the connection is secure. For service equipment applications, verify that connector sizes 350 to 750 MCM are used only where permitted by NEC 230.46.
