How to Install Black & Vision Tap Wire Connectors
Install and terminate conductors in Black & Vision Tap® connectors by stripping, cleaning, inserting, and torquing the pressure screws to the specified values. Follow the wire-size chart and safety notes to ensure a secure, code-compliant connection.

Tools needed:
Wire stripper, Wire brush, Hex key or Allen wrench sized to the connector, Torque wrench or torque screwdriver
Supplies needed:
Black & Vision Tap® connector, Conductors/wires, Oxide inhibitor gel (pre-filled in connector)
- Select the correct connector and strip the wire
Choose the connector size that matches the conductor size and strip the insulation according to the chart for that connector. Verify the stripped length is correct before installation.
- Clean oxidized conductors
Inspect the conductor ends and, if oxidation is present, clean the conductor with a wire brush before insertion. Use caution and de-energize the circuit before working on any wiring.
- Insert conductors into separate ports
Insert each conductor into a different connector port. Make sure the wire insulation on a properly installed conductor extends at least 3/8 inch into the connector port.
- Tighten the pressure screws to specification
Secure the pressure screws using the correct hex key and tighten them to the torque value specified for the connector and wire size. Do not overtighten or leave screws loose.
- Verify the installation
Confirm the conductors are fully seated, the insulation extends into the port as required, and the connection is secure. For service equipment applications, verify that connector sizes 350 to 750 MCM are used only where permitted by NEC 230.46.
