The Mersen Surge-Trap® Pluggable SPD, SKU SP420E, offers advanced overvoltage protection for industrial applications. This device features Mersen's patented TPMOV® technology, eliminating the need for external fuses, fuse holders, or additional wiring, which significantly reduces installation time and costs. It meets ANSI/UL 1449 5th Edition, Open Type 1 SPD standards, ensuring reliable protection. The SP420E is designed for easy installation on a 35mm DIN-rail and features a pluggable module design for quick replacement of failed units without rewiring or touching the base. Key specifications include a 420V operating voltage, a high Short Circuit Current Rating (SCCR) of 200kA, and a Surge Current Rating (Imax) of 50kA. The nominal discharge current (In) for an 8x20 μs waveform is between 10-20kA. Its response time is less than 1 nanosecond. The SPD includes a visual indicator flag (Green = Functional, Red = Replace) for immediate status monitoring and offers a remote status indicator with Form C dry contacts for integration with critical control circuitry. The unit is IP20 finger-safe and constructed with UL94 V0 flammability rated materials, operating within a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. Applications include industrial control panels, water treatment facilities, smart grid and LV metering systems, and traffic/ITS applications. The pluggable modules are mechanically coded to prevent installation errors. Mersen provides a 5-year warranty on this product.
