What is the IP69K rating?
IP69K is the highest Ingress Protection rating, designed for products regularly exposed to high-pressure and high-temperature washdowns. It ensures protection against dust and powerful water jets.
Where are IP69K products typically used?
IP69K products are ideal for applications requiring sanitation and cleanliness, such as Food and Beverage, Wastewater, Pharmaceutical, and Medical Facilities.
How does IP69K differ from NEMA Type 4?
IP69K involves high-pressure, high-temperature, low-volume water jets from a short distance (4-6 inches). NEMA Type 4 uses high-volume, low-pressure water from a long distance (10-12 feet).
What certifications do Federal Signal products have?
Federal Signal products meet or exceed standards from UL, CSA, CSFM, and IECEx. The company also holds ISO 9001 Certification.
What type of testing do IP69K products undergo?
Products are dust-tight tested in an Arizona A2 Dust chamber for five hours. They also undergo high-pressure steam jet cleaning with water sprays up to 1450 psi at 176°F (80°C).
What water temperature is used in IP69K testing?
During IP69K testing, water is sprayed at temperatures of 176°F (80°C).
What water pressure is used in IP69K testing?
IP69K testing involves water sprays of 1160–1450 psi.
What is the spray distance for IP69K water testing?
Water is sprayed from 4 different angles at a distance of 4–6 inches from the device during IP69K testing.
Is the 371DST light suitable for hazardous locations?
Yes, the Model 371DST Commander® Double Strobe Light is specifically listed under the Hazardous Location product category.
How does IP69K protect against dust and water?
IP69K products are dust-tight and withstand high-pressure, high-temperature water jets. Testing includes dust exposure and water sprays at 1160–1450 psi and 176°F (80°C).
How to Install the 371DST Strobe Light
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and wiring the 371DST Strobe Light in hazardous locations.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Drill, Multimeter
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, 1” NPT conduit hub (user-supplied), 1” NPT close-up plug (user-supplied)
- Unpack and Inspect the Light
Carefully unpack the 371DST Strobe Light and inspect it for any damage that may have occurred during transit. If damaged, do not install; file a claim with the carrier.
- Mount the Light
Choose a flat horizontal surface or a 1” NPT pipe for mounting. For surface mounting, use the gasket as a template to mark and drill four 9/32” holes for screws and one 1-3/8” hole for wire entry. Secure the light using the provided screws and washers.
- Make Electrical Connections
Disassemble the light by removing the dome assembly and the strobe-spinning assembly. Route the supply wires into the housing, strip 0.28” of insulation from the ends, and connect them to the terminal block, ensuring correct polarity for DC models. Connect the earth ground to the terminal block.
- Reassemble and Test the Light
Reassemble the light by securing the strobe-spinning assembly and dome. Ensure the dome is tightly closed. Turn on the power and test the light to confirm proper operation.
