Frequently Asked Questions
What is the IP rating of Federal Signal products?
Federal Signal offers products with an IP69K rating, the highest standard for ingress protection against solids and water.
What does the IP69K rating mean?
IP69K signifies protection against high-pressure, high-temperature washdowns and ensures no ingress of dust is permitted.
Where are IP69K products typically used?
IP69K products are ideal for applications in food and beverage, wastewater, pharmaceutical, marine, and medical facilities.
How is IP69K dust protection tested?
Products are dust-tight tested in an Arizona A2 Dust chamber for 6 seconds every 15 minutes over five hours.
How is IP69K water protection tested?
Water protection testing involves high-pressure steam jet cleaning at 1160–1450 psi, 4–6 inches away, at 176°F (80°C) from four angles.
What certifications do Federal Signal products have?
Products meet or exceed UL, CSA, CSFM, IECEx, and other global certifications. Federal Signal is also ISO 9001 Certified.
What type of product is Model 371DST?
Model 371DST is a Commander® Double Strobe Hazardous Location Light.
What is the difference between IP69K and NEMA Type 4?
IP69K protects from close-range, powerful, high-temperature water jets and is dust-tight. NEMA Type 4 involves high volume, low pressure, and long-distance water.
How to Install the 371DST Strobe Light
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and wiring the 371DST Strobe Light in hazardous locations.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Drill
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, 1” NPT conduit hub, 1” NPT close-up plug
- Unpack and Inspect the Light
Carefully unpack the 371DST Strobe Light and inspect it for any damage that may have occurred during transit. If damaged, do not install and file a claim with the carrier.
- Mount the Light
Choose a flat horizontal surface or a 1” NPT pipe for mounting. For surface mounting, use the gasket as a template to mark four drill positions, drill holes, and secure the light using the provided screws and washers.
- Make Electrical Connections
Disassemble the light by removing the dome assembly and the strobe-spinning assembly. Route the supply wires into the housing, strip the ends, and connect them to the terminal block, ensuring to observe polarity for DC models.
- Ground the Light
Connect the earth ground wire to the terminal block and the green ground screw located in the housing to ensure proper grounding.
- Reassemble and Test the Light
Reassemble the light by securing the dome assembly back in place. Once assembled, turn on the power and test the light to ensure it operates correctly.
