How to Install the 300X-120-240 Amplified Speaker
Installation guide for mounting and wiring the 300X-120-240 amplified speaker for hazardous locations.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Drill, Wrench
Supplies needed:
1/2" diameter bolts, 1/2" flat washers, 1/2" lockwashers, 1/2" hex nuts, Wire connectors, Conduit and fittings
- Unpack and Inspect
Carefully unpack the amplified speaker and inspect it for any damage that may have occurred during transit. If damage is found, immediately file a claim with the carrier.
- Prepare Mounting Bracket
Remove the two 1/2"-13 hex head bolts, flat washers, and lockwashers securing the mounting bracket to the unit. Disconnect the lanyard from the mounting bracket at the cotter ring.
- Select Mounting Location
Choose a mounting location on a relatively flat surface capable of supporting the speaker's weight. Ensure the front of the speaker is clear of obstructions for optimal sound distribution. Mount the unit so the speaker projector is pointed horizontally or slightly downward.
- Mark and Drill Mounting Holes
Use the mounting bracket as a template to scribe drill position marks on the mounting surface. Drill holes to accommodate 1/2" diameter bolts. Ensure both sides of the surface are clear of anything that could be damaged before drilling.
- Secure Mounting Bracket
Secure the bracket to the mounting surface using 1/2" diameter hex head bolts, lockwashers, and hex nuts.
- Attach Speaker to Bracket
Reattach the speaker unit to its mounting bracket using the previously removed 1/2"-13 hex head bolts, flat washers, and lockwashers. Position the speaker for desired sound coverage and tighten these bolts securely.
- Attach Lanyard
Reattach the lanyard to the cotter ring and mounting bracket, verifying it is securely attached to both the cover and the bracket.
- Route Wiring
Route wires through the 1/2" NPT threaded openings into the SelecTone unit in accordance with National and local Electrical Codes. Wire size depends on operating current and distance from the power source.
- Make Electrical Connections
To avoid electrical shock, do not connect wires when circuits are energized. Use only 12 to 18 AWG wire for power connections. Strip no more than 0.25 inch of insulation. For 24V AC/DC models, connect positive to (+) and negative to (-). For 24V AC, connect line to 'L' and common to 'N'. For 120/240 VAC models, set the voltage selector switch (SW1) to the desired source voltage, connect line to 'L' and common to 'N'. Connect the earth ground wire to the green screw if required by local codes. Plug the connector into the receptacle on the printed circuit board.
- Install Tone Card (if applicable)
Plug the desired tone card into the socket. Rotate the card retainer into position to hold the card in place.
- Install Speaker Connector Card (if applicable)
Route audio signal leads into the enclosure and connect them to the connector card audio inputs. Plug the desired connector card into the socket and rotate the card retainer into position.
- Reinstall Housing Cover
Carefully reinstall the housing cover and tighten it until the cover flange makes contact with the housing. Tighten the setscrew on the cover to secure it. Verify that the mounting bolts are securely tightened.
- Test the System
After installation is complete, test the system to verify that each amplified speaker operates satisfactorily. If the unit is too loud, remove the housing cover and gently turn the internal volume control counter-clockwise to decrease sound output. Reinstall the housing cover.
- Distribute Instructions
Provide a copy of these instructions to the Safety Engineer, system operator(s), and maintenance personnel.
