How to Install the 300VSC-IP4C SelecTone Command Unit
Installation guide for mounting, wiring, and powering the 300VSC-IP4C SelecTone Command Unit.
Estimated time: 45m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter, Permanent felt-tip marker
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Wire connectors, Shielded twisted-pair audio cable (18 AWG recommended)
- Prepare the Unit and Select Power Source
Unpack the 300VSC-IP4C and check for any transit damage. If damaged, do not install. Determine if you will use a 120/240 Vac local power source or a 24 Vdc central power source. If using 240 Vac, open the housing and slide the voltage selector switch SW1 to the 240V position. Ensure power is disconnected before proceeding with any installation.
- Mount the 300VSC-IP4C
For the Model 300VSC-1, place it on a flat horizontal surface or wall-mount using supplied brackets. For the Model 300VSC-1044SB, install it in a standard 19-inch rack-mount cabinet. Ensure the unit is securely mounted.
- Connect Signal Lines
Connect a color-coded twisted pair of shielded audio cables (minimum 18 AWG) to terminals TB1-4 and TB1-5 on terminal block TB1. Do not install signal lines in the same conduit as power lines. For non-SelecTone 25 VRMS speakers, connect directly to TB1-4 and TB1-5. For SelecTone devices, use the appropriate connector kit (AM25CK for balanced, 300CK for unbalanced) and connect according to the diagrams in the manual, ensuring correct polarity if applicable.
- Connect Power
For local power, connect the supplied 120 Vac or 240 Vac power cord to a suitable power source. For 24 Vdc central power, connect the power lines from the central source to the appropriate terminals on the rear of the unit. Always ensure power is disconnected before making connections.
- Connect Remote Switches and Audio Inputs (Optional)
If using remote switches for tone activation, connect them to the designated terminals (S1-S4) on TB2. For low-level audio input (e.g., from a PBX system or remote microphone), use the screw terminals on the back. For background music, connect to the RCA jack. Label the front panel switches for TONE 1 through TONE 4, AUX, TEST, and CANCEL using a permanent marker.
- Install Tone Modules
With power disconnected, insert the desired SelecTone tone modules into the receptacles on the motherboard and associated card for TONE 1, TONE 2, TONE 3, and TONE 4.
- Verify Installation and Test Operation
After all connections are made and the unit is securely mounted, restore power. Test the system by activating tones locally using the front panel buttons and remotely via connected switches. Verify that the correct tones sound and that the LEDs indicate activation. Use the TEST button to check tones without activating external speakers. Press CANCEL to reset active tones. Refer to the manual for specific testing procedures and troubleshooting.
