How to Assemble a WMG-PC9 Wire Mesh Grip
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling a WMG-PC9 wire mesh grip onto a cable or cord, ensuring proper strain relief and connection to an enclosure.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Wire cutters, Flat nose pliers, Wrench or adjustable pliers
Supplies needed:
WMG-PC9 Wire Mesh Grip, Compression gland nut, Bushing, Connector body, Cable or cord
- Disassemble Original Connector
Remove the original retaining ring from the connector. If a replacement gland nut is supplied with the grip, also remove the original gland nut from the connector body.
- Prepare Cord and Slide Components
Cut the cord squarely. Slide the compression gland nut onto the cord. Compress the wire mesh grip and slide it onto the cable. For maximum diameter cords, preform the wire mesh loops using flat nose pliers to round them. Then, slide the bushing onto the cord.
- Mount Connector Body and Insert Cord
Secure the connector body to the enclosure if using threaded hub applications. For knockout applications, the assembly can be completed before installing to the enclosure. Insert the prepared cord through the connector body to achieve the desired working length of conductors.
- Assemble Wire Mesh Grip
Slide the bushing into the connector body. Then, slide the wire mesh grip along the cord until it lays flat against the bushing. Note: In some installations, the cord jacket may need to be stripped back to pass through the body.
- Secure Gland Nut
Slide the compression gland nut along the wire mesh grip and tighten it onto the connector body. Remove all slack from the mesh by smoothing it out along the cord to ensure proper strain relief.
