How to Assemble a WMG-PC8 Wire Mesh Grip Strain Relief Connector

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for assembling a WMG-PC8 wire mesh grip strain relief connector onto a cable or cord, ensuring proper installation and strain relief for your conductors.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Flat nose pliers, Wire strippers, Wrench or adjustable pliers

Supplies needed:

WMG-PC8 Wire Mesh Grip Strain Relief Connector, Cable or Cord

  1. Disassemble Connector Retaining Ring

Disassemble the standard cord connector and remove the original retaining ring from its body. The WMG-PC8 does not include a replacement gland nut, so only remove the retaining ring if present.

  2. Prepare Cord and Install Gland Nut

Cut the end of your cable or cord squarely. Slide the compression gland nut onto the cord, ensuring it is oriented correctly for later assembly into the connector body.

  3. Compress and Slide Wire Mesh Grip

Compress the wire mesh grip and carefully slide it onto the cable or cord. If installing on cords of maximum diameter, use flat nose pliers to slightly preform the wire mesh loops into a round shape before sliding it on to ease installation.

  4. Slide Bushing onto Cord

Slide the bushing component of the connector onto the cord, positioning it after the wire mesh grip and before the connector body.

  5. Secure Connector Body to Enclosure (Optional)

Secure the connector body to the enclosure if you are using a threaded hub application. For knockout applications, you may complete the full assembly of the grip and connector before installing the entire unit to the enclosure.

  6. Insert Cord Through Connector Body

Insert the prepared cord, with the gland nut, wire mesh, and bushing, through the connector body to achieve the desired working length for the conductors. In some installations, the cord jacket may need to be stripped back to pass through the body.

  7. Seat Bushing and Wire Mesh

Slide the bushing fully into the connector body until it is securely seated. Then, slide the wire mesh along the cord until it lays flat against the bushing, ensuring proper positioning.

  8. Tighten Compression Gland Nut

Slide the compression gland nut along the wire mesh and firmly tighten it onto the connector body. Remove all slack from the mesh by smoothing it out along the cord to ensure a secure and effective strain relief.
