UT 3-4 R RED DIE
Upper Dies - 1/2 inch and 5/8 inch Red Upper Die for Compressed and Compact StrandedHow to Operate and Maintain the UT 3 Compression Tool
This guide provides essential instructions for safely operating the UT 3 compression tool, including die installation, routine lubrication, and verifying proper compression for various electrical connectors.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Tolerance gauge
Supplies needed:
Lubricating oil, 1/2 inch compression connectors, 5/8 inch compression connectors, Electrical wires
- Understand Safety and Operational Guidelines
Before operating or servicing the UT 3 tool, read and understand all instructions and safety information in this manual. Be aware of proper usage and potential hazards. Always disconnect power before installation to mitigate the risk of shock. Ensure the product is operated by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
- Lubricate Pivot and Link Pin Areas
Perform occasional lubrication of the pivot and link pin areas with a good grade of lubricating oil. This routine maintenance ensures the smooth operation and longevity of the tool.
- Install or Reverse Upper Die for Connector Size
To prepare the tool for 1/2 inch compression connectors, insert the upper die into the tool head so that '1/2' is clearly readable and '5/8' is upside down. For 5/8 inch compression connectors, pull the upper die straight out, reverse its orientation, and re-insert it into the tool head so that '5/8' is now readable.
- Perform a Tool Compression Test (Recommended)
To verify proper compression, place the provided 'tolerance gauge' between the dies and fully close the tool. If the gauge is not securely held in place, the tool is operating below tolerance and must be returned to the factory for repair.
- Perform Compression on Connectors
Once the correct die is installed, insert the appropriate electrical wire and connector into the tool's dies. Close the tool handles firmly in one stroke to achieve a full circumferential compression. The ratchet and pawl mechanism is designed to deliver proper compression before the jaws will release.
