How to Install Star Teck Cable Fittings (ST050-462 to ST400-486 Series)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing Star Teck cable fittings, including cable preparation and proper sealing, for various cable types and enclosures. This product should be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
Estimated time: 15m
Tools needed:
Hacksaw, Wrench, Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
Appropriate cable fitting, Cable
- Select the Correct Fitting
Select the appropriate cable fitting that accommodates both the enclosure and the cable you are using. Refer to the product table in the documentation for specific fitting ranges and dimensions.
- Prepare the Cable
Determine the required working length of the conductor inside the enclosure or device. Carefully remove a portion of the outer jacket to expose the cable armor. Use a hacksaw to cut the armor, then trim the outer jacket to achieve the exposed armor strip length indicated in the product table. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation.
- Insert Cable into Fitting
Feed the prepared cable through the gland nut opening of the fitting. Push the cable until its armor firmly hits the end stop inside the fitting.
- Secure and Seal the Fitting
Tighten the gland nut until an appropriate seal is obtained, or to the maximum torque specified in the product table. Ensure the bushing seals evenly around the cable's outer jacket and that the cable remains centered to obtain an optimal seal. WARNING: Disconnect power before installation.
