This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Sweetheart FLOOD-SEAL Mechanical Connector CS 4197 ROCKET on service cables. Ensure installation is performed by trained personnel following all applicable local, state, and national electrical codes, installation standards, and safety rules.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Utility knife, Wire strippers, Wire brush, Torque wrench (recommended), 5/16" allen wrench, 3/8" drive ratchet with allen adapter
Supplies needed:
Sweetheart FLOOD-SEAL Mechanical Connector CS 4197 ROCKET, Anti-oxidant compound, Silicone grease (included with connector)
- Prepare the Connector for Cable Size
Identify the service cable size. Cut the rocket/cap ring at the tip of the arrow to expose the correct wire range. Similarly, cut the insulating sleeve tip at the arrow to show the correct cable size.
- Prepare the Cable Conductor
Strip approximately 2 1/4 inches of insulation from the cable to bare the conductor. Penciling the edge of the insulation is recommended to ease installation but not required.
- Clean and Treat the Conductor
Thoroughly wire brush the bare conductor to remove surface oxides. Apply anti-oxidant compound to the conductor and brush it into the strands.
- Insert Conductor into Connector
Insert the prepared conductor into the outlet barrel of the connector, ensuring a maximum of 1/8 inch of bare conductor is visible.
- Apply Grease and Position Rocket
Wipe the cable clean. Apply the included silicone grease to the prepared cable. Slide the cut rocket over the greased cable.
- Seat the Rocket Sleeve
Slide the rocket sleeve over the outlet and onto the PVC shoulder until it firmly butts against the connector bar.
- Tighten Setscrews
Tighten the setscrews down on the conductor to the specified torque. For #12 to #2 wire, apply 120 in-lbs (10 ft-lbs). For 1/0 to 350 Kcmil wire, apply 360 in-lbs (30 ft-lbs). The use of a torque wrench is recommended. If not available, use a 5/16” allen wrench or a 3/8” drive ratchet with an allen adapter.
