How to Install the Sweetheart "FLOOD-SEAL"® Mechanical Connector CS 4197 ROCKET

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Sweetheart "FLOOD-SEAL"® Mechanical Connector CS 4197 ROCKET. Ensure installation is performed by trained personnel according to all applicable electrical codes and safety rules to prevent electric shock.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Cutting tool, Wire strippers, Wire brush, Torque wrench (recommended), 5/16" Allen wrench, 3/8" drive ratchet with Allen adapter (alternative)

Supplies needed:

Silicone grease (included), Electrical compound

  1. Prepare Rocket/Cap Ring

Identify the cable size being used. Cut the rocket/cap ring at the tip of the arrow to leave the correct wire range showing for your cable size.

  2. Prepare Insulating Sleeve

Cut off the tip of the insulating sleeve at the arrow, ensuring the correct cable size is visible on the sleeve.

  3. Strip Cable Insulation

Strip approximately 2 1/4 inches of insulation from the cable conductor. Penciling the edge of the insulation is recommended to ease installation, but not required.

  4. Clean and Prepare Conductor

Thoroughly wire brush the bare conductor to break up surface oxides. Add electrical compound and brush it into the conductor strands.

  5. Apply Grease and Position Rocket

Wipe the cable clean. Apply the silicone grease (included in each rocket) and slide the cut rocket over the prepared cable.

  6. Insert Conductor into Outlet Barrel

Insert the prepared conductor into the outlet barrel, ensuring a maximum of 1/8 inch of bare conductor is showing.

  7. Position Rocket Sleeve

Slide the rocket sleeve over the outlet and onto the PVC shoulder until the rocket butts against the connector bar.

  8. Tighten Setscrews to Torque

Tighten the setscrews down on the conductor to the specified torque. For #12 to #2 wire, apply 120 in-lbs (10 ft-lbs). For 1/0 to 350 Kcmil wire, apply 360 in-lbs (30 ft-lbs). A torque wrench is recommended. If not available, use a 5/16" allen wrench or a 3/8" drive ratchet with an allen adapter. Do not use a "T" handle wrench or 1/2" drive.
