How to Install the PA04 Pin Adapter
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for safely installing the PA04 Pin Adapter, designed for reliable termination of #4 stranded aluminum conductors into compatible mechanical connectors.

Wire strippers, Wire brush, Crimping tool (e.g., T&B or Burndy), Crimping dies (e.g., T&B 50 or Burndy BG/243), Screwdriver or Wrench
Supplies needed:
PA04 Pin Adapter, Stranded aluminum conductor (#4 AWG), Mechanical equipment connector
- Disconnect Power and Select Adapter
WARNING: Disconnect all power to the electrical equipment before beginning installation to prevent risk of shock. Select the PA04 Pin Adapter, ensuring it is marked for #4 aluminum wire size to be terminated. Verify the equipment connector is listed for Al-Cu use or suitable for aluminum wire. Ensure adequate wire bending space and clearance for the adapter and its insulating cover.
- Prepare Conductor and Adapter
Strip the insulation from the #4 aluminum conductor to a length of 1 inch (as per 'A' column for PA04 in the table), ensuring not to nick or ring the conductor strands. Thoroughly scratch brush the stripped aluminum conductor to remove any oxide film. Insert the conductor fully into the compression barrel of the PA04 Pin Adapter.
- Crimp the Pin Adapter
Select the appropriate crimping tool and dies (e.g., T&B 50 or Burndy BG/243 for PA04, Orange color code). Make the required number of crimps (2 for PA04) using circumferential or hex dies, compressing from the base of the socket toward the cable. Ensure crimps are made adjacent to each other between knurl or ink marks. Remove any flash or excess inhibitor after crimping.
- Install Insulating Cover and Connect Pig-Tail
Slip the mated insulating cover, supplied with the Pin Adapter, completely over the compression barrel. Ensure the cover is fully in place to maintain minimum electrical spacing. Insert the copper pig-tail of the PA04 fully into the mechanical equipment connector body. Tighten the set screw to the equipment manufacturer’s recommended torque (35 inch-lbs for PA04 if no specific recommendation is provided).
