How to Install the LINK-C Deadbreak Cam Link Operable Connector System

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe installation and setup of the 600 amp LINK-C Deadbreak Cam Link Operable Connector System, including component assembly, alignment, and grounding procedures. Always ensure all apparatus are de-energized before beginning installation.

Estimated time: 1h 30m

Tools needed:

Torque wrench (with 1" hex socket), Hot stick, Wire strippers, Measuring tape or ruler

Supplies needed:

ELASTIMOLD lubricant, #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire, Grounding connectors, 600 amp elbow (pre-installed on cable), Bushing extender, Epoxy standoff plug, LINK-C connector, Alignment bracket with supplied hardware, Mating 200 amp product (optional)

  1. Prepare the 600 Amp Elbow and Apparatus

Install the 600 amp elbow onto the cable according to its specific installation instructions, ensuring it will align with the stand-off plug. Clean and thoroughly lubricate the apparatus bushing and both interfaces of the 600 amp bushing extender with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. This lubrication is crucial for proper removal of the link later.

  2. Install the Bushing Extender and Elbow

Install the bushing extender onto the apparatus bushing. Insert the 600ATM into the retainer contact, engage its internal hex broach, and then insert the retainer contact into the bushing extender. Thread the retainer contact into the apparatus bushing using a suitable tool applied to the 1” hex portion of the 600ATM, and torque it to 50-60 ft-lbs. Clean and thoroughly lubricate the epoxy standoff plug and both interfaces of the 600 amp elbow with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. This lubrication is crucial for proper removal of the link later. Install the elbow onto the epoxy standoff plug. Insert the 600AMT into the retainer contact, engage its internal hex broach, and then insert the retainer contact into the 600 amp elbow through the hole in the compression lug. Thread the retainer contact into the epoxy standoff plug using a suitable tool applied to the 1” hex portion of the 600AMT, and torque it to 50-60 ft-lbs.

  3. Mount and Secure the Alignment Bracket

Remove the bushing extender clamp and elbow clamp from the alignment bracket. Position the alignment bracket on the bushing extender at a dimension of 2.5 inches (63.5mm) from the grounding eye. Assemble the bushing extender clamp to the alignment bracket using the supplied hardware. Torque the clamp by alternating sides until the clamp tabs are flush with each other and tight on both sides. Position the elbow within the alignment bracket such that the elbow cuff is lined up evenly with the bushing extender cuff. Ensure the elbow clamp notch faces the cable entrance of the elbow. Assemble the elbow clamp to the alignment bracket with the supplied hardware. Torque the clamp by alternating sides until the clamp tabs are flush with each other and tight on both sides.

  4. Install the LINK-C Connector

Clean and thoroughly lubricate both 600 ampere interfaces of the Link with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. This lubrication is crucial for proper removal of the link later. Align the Link so that it is perpendicular to the switch faceplate when inserted into the bushing extender and elbow. Insert the Link into the bushing extender and elbow, ensuring both lever arms are positioned on the inside of the alignment bracket legs. Engage the pivot pin into the slots in the alignment bracket legs. While pushing inward, move the lever arms downward using a hot stick eye. This action will engage the roller pin and move the Link inward. Continue moving the lever arms until they are perpendicular to the alignment bracket leg.

  5. Ground the System and Install Mating Products

Ground the elbow: Feed a #14 AWG or #12 AWG solid copper wire through the grounding eye on the elbow, twist it tight, and connect it to ground using an appropriate connector. Clean and lubricate the 200 amp interface on the Link. Ground the cable: If using concentric neutral cable, twist the concentric neutral wires together and connect them to ground using an appropriate connector. If using 20MA or 21MA grounding devices, connect the ground lead from the device to ground using a suitable connector. For three-phase installations, ensure all grounds from all three phases are tied to a common ground point. Install the desired mating product onto the 200 amp interface, following its specific installation instructions, after ensuring it is properly grounded.
