How to Install a J4-6226-25-R Four-Point Deadbreak Junction (Universal Mount)
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing a J4-6226-25-R four-point deadbreak junction using the universal mount method, including mounting, assembly, grounding, and initial setup. Ensure all apparatus is de-energized before beginning installation.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Wrench set (for 3/8" and 1/2" hex nuts/screws), Drill (if mounting surface not pre-drilled), Wire strippers, Measuring tape or ruler, Marking tool (pencil or marker)
Supplies needed:
J4-6226-25-R Deadbreak Junction, Mounting Hardware Prepack (includes base bracket, base plate, universal brackets, and associated fasteners), Suitable fasteners (user-supplied, for attaching universal brackets to mounting surface), Grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded), ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant, Insulated caps (for unused bushings, if applicable)
- Ensure Safety and Determine Mounting Location
DANGER: All apparatus must be de-energized during installation or removal of parts. This product should be installed only by competent personnel trained in good safety practices involving high voltage electrical equipment. Determine the desired location for the junction assembly. Use the base plate as a template, place it on the mounting surface, and mark all slot locations.
- Attach Initial Universal Brackets to Surface
Attach two (2) universal brackets to the flat mounting surface using suitable fasteners (supplied by user). Tighten these fasteners securely to prevent any movement during operation.
- Attach Remaining Universal Brackets
Attach the remaining two (2) universal brackets to the two (2) universal brackets already mounted on the surface. Position them at the desired angle using the supplied 3/8" hex head cap screws, external tooth lock washers, and 3/8" hex nuts. Tighten securely.
- Assemble Junction to Base Bracket and Base Plate
Assemble the deadbreak junction to the base bracket assembly and base plate. Use two (2) 1/2" hex head cap screws, two (2) 1/2" split lock washers, and two (2) 1/2" hex nuts, attaching them to the center mounting holes on the bracket assembly. Tighten all components securely.
- Attach Junction Assembly to Universal Brackets
Attach the fully assembled deadbreak junction to the universal brackets using the supplied 1/2" split lock washers, 1/2" hex nuts, and 1/2" hex head cap screws. Tighten securely. Ensure the parking stand is in the upright position.
- Ground the Assembly
The base bracket assembly and the junction's black conductive jacket must be grounded. Connect a grounding wire (No. 2 solid to 1/0 stranded) to the grounding lug provided on the base bracket. Ensure a secure connection to an appropriate earth ground.
- Prepare Operating Interfaces
Remove all protective shipping caps from the operating interfaces. Clean each interface thoroughly and lubricate them with an ELASTIMOLD approved lubricant. DO NOT SUBSTITUTE other lubricants, as they may be harmful to this product or its mating product(s).
- Install Insulated Caps (if applicable)
If not all operating interfaces will be utilized, install appropriate HV insulated caps on any unused bushing(s) before energizing the circuit. Do not use the protective shipping caps for this function, as they are not insulated.
