How to Install the FTH Split Base Series Connector
This guide details the installation and wiring procedure for the FTH Split Base Series Connector, including mounting, torquing, and sealing connections. Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable electrical codes and safety rules.

FS 1175 Flood Seal Covers, 1/2-13 Connector Mounting Hardware, 1/2-13 Socket Head Cap Screws, Rubber Pull Tab Plugs
- Prepare Flood Seal Covers
Install FS 1175 “FLOOD SEAL”® Covers on the cable prior to crimping the connectors.
- Prepare the Connector
Remove the rubber pull tab plugs from the connector. Loosen the stud mounting bolts and open the connector as far as possible without disengaging the threads.
- Mount Connector to Stud
Carefully place the connector over the 3”-12 UN transformer stud, ensuring maximum thread engagement and avoiding damage to the stud threads. Push the connector half with the mounting bolt threads onto the stud threads, ensuring full thread engagement.
- Secure Connector Halves
Push the other connector half onto the stud threads and lightly snug the bolts, following the torque sequence shown in Figure 2. Verify thread engagement and gasket alignment before proceeding.
- Initial Torque and Position
Rotate the connector to its approximate final position and torque the stud mounting bolts to 150 IN/LB, following the sequence shown in Figure 2.
- Install to NEMA Pads
Install the connector to the NEMA pads using the supplied 1/2-13 bolts and snug them.
- Adjust and Final Torque Stud Bolts
As cables are installed, make any required adjustments to the connector position. After all cables are installed and snugged, resume torquing the stud mounting bolts to 250 IN/LB, then to 360 IN/LB, using the sequence shown in Figure 2. Recheck the torque of each stud mounting bolt in sequence.
- Final Torque Mounting Bolts and Seal
Finish torquing the connector mounting bolts to 480 IN/LB (40 FT/LB). Slide the FS 1175 Flood Seals onto the FTH 175 to seal each connection.
- Complete Installation
Reinstall the rubber pull tab plugs.
