Overview

The ABB E971FBL Round Floor Box (SKU: E971FBL) from ABB Installation Products is a non-metallic, flush-mounted electrical access solution designed for commercial and industrial flooring systems. Constructed from high-strength rigid PVC, this floor box delivers exceptional resistance to corrosion, moisture, and mechanical stress, ensuring long-term reliability in demanding environments such as warehouses, manufacturing facilities, and high-traffic areas. Key specifications include a 90 cubic inch internal capacity, optimized for housing multiple conduit entries while maintaining a compact 5.03-inch diameter and 5.40-inch depth. The box features two pre-installed hubs sized at 3/4-inch and 1-inch, positioned 180° apart for efficient conduit routing. Included are six reducer plugs: four 3/4-inch to 1/2-inch reducers and two 1-inch to 3/4-inch reducers, providing compatibility with standard conduit sizes from 1/2-inch to 1-inch. A disposable pouring cap is included for concrete pouring during installation. The E971FBL is engineered for flush installation in concrete floors, carpeted surfaces, tile, or wood applications, with a minimum concrete depth requirement of 3 inches. Its rigid PVC construction ensures resistance to chemicals and environmental factors, while the non-corrosive material eliminates concerns about rust or degradation over time. The design simplifies wiring distribution and access for maintenance teams, reducing installation complexity and long-term operational costs. Ideal for new construction or retrofit projects, this floor box supports a wide range of wiring devices, including single duplex or data/voice configurations. The product is part of the Steel City® series by ABB Installation Products, a trusted brand in electrical infrastructure solutions.

How to Install the E971FBL Non-Metallic Floor Box

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the E971FBL non-metallic floor box in both concrete and wooden or metal joist constructions.

Estimated time: 1h

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Handsaw, Drill, Safety glasses, Protective gloves

Supplies needed:

Solvent cement, Plastic caps, Cemented plugs, Mounting screws, Wooden 2" x 6" support

  1. Prepare the installation site

Establish the location of the floor box on the subfloor and cut a 5" round hole in the subfloor.

  2. Install the floor box

Insert the floor box through the hole in the subfloor to the desired height. Secure it using three (3) 16d nails for wooden joists or three (3) self-drilling screws for metal joists.

  3. Make electrical connections

Solvent weld electrical non-metallic tubing (ENT) into the hub of the floor box using Carlon® ENT cement. Seal unused openings with cemented plugs.

  4. Trim the floor box

After the cement has cured, remove the plastic cap and scribe a line around the floor box at the thickness of the flooring to be used. Cut off the floor box at the scribed line using a handsaw.

  5. Install the cover

Install the non-metallic mounting ring to the underside of the cover. Apply PVC cement to the outside diameter of the mounting ring only, then press the cover assembly into the floor box ensuring it is seated properly.
