How to Install the Thomas & Betts FLOOD-SEAL® FS-95 Connector Kit (CFK 250 CS)

WARNING: Danger of Electric Shock! Installation must be performed by trained installers in accordance with all applicable electrical codes and safety rules. This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the Thomas & Betts FLOOD-SEAL® FS-95 Connector Kit, specifically the CFK 250 CS Force Fit Type. It details cable preparation, sleeve modification, and final assembly for creating secure, sealed electrical connections.

Tools needed:

Cutting tool, Crimping/Compression tool, Wrench or socket set

Supplies needed:

Thomas & Betts FLOOD-SEAL® FS-95 Connector Kit (CFK 250 CS), Electrical cable, Electrical lug, Electrical bus, Silicone grease

  1. Clean the Cable

Thoroughly clean the electrical cable before proceeding with the installation of the rocket sleeve. Ensure the cable surface is free from dirt, oil, or any contaminants to ensure proper sealing and connection.

  2. Pencil the Cable Insulation

Carefully pencil the cable insulation. This step prepares the cable for proper sleeve placement and ensures a secure fit, aiding in the subsequent steps of the installation process.

  3. Identify the Correct Cut Ring

Examine the raised numbers on each cut ring of the rocket sleeve. Refer to the provided table in the documentation to match the conductor size of your cable to the appropriate cut ring, ensuring proper fitment for your specific cable.

  4. Cut the Rocket Sleeve

Using a suitable cutting tool, carefully cut off the tip of the rocket sleeve up to the selected ring identified in the previous step. Ensure the cut leaves the required conductor range visible on the sleeve for correct application.

  5. Lubricate and Install the Rocket Sleeve

Apply silicone grease to both ends of the rocket sleeve and the prepared cable. Hold the cable at an angle to the sleeve's opening. Twist the rocket sleeve while firmly pushing it onto the cable until it is fully seated and properly positioned.

  6. Compress the Lug onto the Cable

Using a crimping or compression tool appropriate for the lug and cable size, securely compress the electrical lug onto the prepared cable. Ensure a strong, reliable connection according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.

  7. Slide Sleeve Over Lug and Onto Bus

Slide the rocket sleeve over the compressed lug and onto the shoulder of the electrical bus. Continue pushing until the rocket sleeve firmly butts against the rubber of the connector bar, creating a complete and secure seal.

  8. Bolt the Terminal to the Bus

Using appropriate tools (e.g., a wrench or socket set), securely bolt the terminal (with the installed lug and sleeve) to the electrical bus. Ensure all connections are tight and meet specified torque requirements for safety and performance.
