Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Crimping tool
Supplies needed:
BAC1038 connectors, Heat shrink insulation tubing, KOPR-SHIELD compound, Mounting screws
- Disconnect battery cables
Before starting the installation, disconnect the battery cables from the battery posts. Note the locations of the positive and negative terminals for correct reconnection.
- Prepare the battery cables
Carefully strip the insulation from the ends of the battery cables without nicking the strands. Ensure the conductor strands are clean and free of dirt.
- Select and crimp the connector
Choose the appropriate BAC1038 connector based on the cable size. Insert the stripped end of the cable into the connector and use the crimping tool to compress the connector according to the specified compression points.
- Apply heat shrink insulation
If using heat shrink insulation, position it over the connector and apply heat according to the manufacturer's instructions until it shrinks tightly around the connector.
- Connect to battery terminals
Install the positive lead to the positive battery terminal and the negative lead to the negative battery terminal. Apply a torque of 10 to 15 ft. lbs. to ensure a secure connection.
