ADR21SH
Type ADR-ALCUL Single-Conductor, One-Hole Mount for Conductor Range Max 2/0 Str., Min 14 AWG, Socket ScrewHow to Install Blackburn Aluminum Dual Rated Connectors
This guide provides recommended procedures for installing Blackburn Aluminum Dual Rated Connectors with either aluminum or copper conductors. It covers conductor preparation, insertion, setscrew tightening, and final mounting.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Wire strippers, Wire brush, Torque wrench
Supplies needed:
Aluminum or copper conductors, Blackburn Contax Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound, Mounting hardware, Flat washers, Belleville washers
- Verify Conductor Compatibility
Before beginning, ensure the power is de-energized. Check the conductor size marked on the connector to confirm it is the correct connector for the conductor size you are using.
- Strip Conductor Insulation
Carefully strip the conductor insulation. Use the length of the connector barrel to measure the appropriate strip length, and avoid any damage to the conductor strands during this process.
- Prepare and Insert Conductor
Wire brush the conductor thoroughly. If using an aluminum conductor, apply Blackburn Contax Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound. Fully insert the prepared conductor into the connector, then wipe off any excess oxide inhibitor.
- Tighten Connector Setscrew
Refer to TABLE 1 (from the original documentation) for the recommended tightening torque based on the connector's maximum conductor size. Apply this torque to the setscrew to secure the conductor within the connector.
- Apply Oxide Inhibitor to Contact Surface
Prior to mounting the connector, apply Blackburn Contax Type CT or Weaver Type CP oxide inhibiting compound to the flat contact surface of the connector.
- Mount the Connector
Mount the connector using appropriate mounting hardware. Refer to TABLE 2 (from the original documentation) for the recommended tightening torque based on the bolt diameter. For best practice, use flat and Belleville washers with the mounting hardware.
