This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the safe and proper installation of the LINK-C 600 amp deadbreak cam link operable connector system, including component assembly, lubrication, and grounding procedures.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hot stick, 600ATM Operating Tool, Torque wrench, Wire strippers, Suitable tool for 1-inch hex portion
Supplies needed:
ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant, No. 14 AWG or No. 12 AWG solid copper wire, Appropriate ground connector, Mounting hardware for alignment bracket
- Ensure Safety and Prepare Components
DANGER: Before beginning, ensure all apparatus is de-energized. Verify all package contents are complete and undamaged, and check components for proper fit. Read all instructions thoroughly, have all required tools at hand, and maintain cleanliness throughout the procedure. Do not touch or move energized products. This product must be installed only by competent personnel trained in high voltage electrical equipment safety practices. Remove any protective shipping covers and replace with appropriate HV insulated caps or connectors before submerging or energizing the circuit.
- Install Cable Elbow
Install the 600 amp elbow onto the cable according to the specific installation instructions provided with the elbow. Ensure the elbow is positioned to properly align with the standoff plug or apparatus bushing.
- Install Bushing Extender
Clean and thoroughly lubricate the apparatus bushing and both interfaces of the 600 amp bushing extender using ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Install the bushing extender onto the apparatus bushing. Insert the 600ATM tool into the retainer contact, engage the internal hex broach, and then insert the retainer contact into the bushing extender. Thread the retainer contact into the apparatus bushing using a suitable tool applied to the 1-inch hex portion of the 600ATM, and torque to 50-60 ft-lbs.
- Install Elbow onto Standoff Plug
Clean and thoroughly lubricate the epoxy standoff plug and both interfaces of the 600 amp elbow using ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Install the elbow onto the epoxy standoff plug. Insert the 600AMT tool into the retainer contact, engage the internal hex broach, and then insert the retainer contact into the 600 amp elbow through the hole in the compression lug. Thread the retainer contact into the epoxy standoff plug using a suitable tool applied to the 1-inch hex portion of the 600AMT, and torque to 50-60 ft-lbs.
- Mount Alignment Bracket
Remove the bushing extender clamp and elbow clamp from the alignment bracket. Position the alignment bracket on the bushing extender, ensuring it is 2.5 inches (63.5mm) from the grounding eye. Assemble the bushing extender clamp to the alignment bracket with the supplied hardware, torquing by alternating sides until the clamp tabs are flush with each other and tight on both sides.
- Secure Elbow with Clamp
Position the elbow within the alignment bracket so that the elbow cuff is lined up evenly with the bushing extender cuff. Assemble the elbow clamp to the alignment bracket using the supplied hardware. Torque by alternating sides until the clamp tabs are flush with each other and tight on both sides. Ensure the elbow clamp notch faces the cable entrance of the elbow.
- Connect the Link
Clean and thoroughly lubricate both 600 ampere interfaces of the Link with ELASTIMOLD supplied lubricant. Align the Link so it is perpendicular to the switch faceplate when inserted. Insert the Link into both the bushing extender and the elbow, ensuring both lever arms are positioned on the inside of the alignment bracket legs. Engage the pivot pin into the slots in the alignment bracket legs. While pushing inward, use a hot stick to move the lever arms downward, engaging the roller pin and moving the Link inward. Continue moving the lever arms until they are perpendicular to the alignment bracket leg.
- Complete Grounding and Mating Product Installation
Ground the elbow by feeding a No. 14 AWG or No. 12 AWG solid copper wire through the grounding eye, twisting it tight, and connecting it to ground. Clean and lubricate the 200 amp interface on the Link. Ground and then install the desired mating product onto the 200 amp interface according to its specific installation instructions. Ground the cable: if using concentric neutral cable, twist the neutral wires together and connect to ground with an appropriate connector; if using 20MA or 21MA grounding devices, connect the ground lead to ground with a suitable connector. For three-phase installations, tie all grounds from all three phases to a common ground point.
