How to Install the 60576 Two-Way Splicer

Instructions for installing and wiring the 60576 two-way splicer, ensuring a secure and reliable electrical connection.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Wire strippers, Crimping tool (specified in Table 1), Wire brush or emery cloth, Chemical resistant gloves, Safety glasses

Supplies needed:

ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound (for aluminum cable), Insulation material (e.g., shrink tubing, adhesive pad, as specified in Table 1)

  1. Prepare the Cable

Strip the insulation from the cable to the length specified in Table 1. Be careful not to nick the cable strands. For aluminum cable, smear a thin layer of ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound on the cable. Clean the cable through the compound to remove surface oxide. Do not remove the compound pre-installed in the splice barrel.

  2. Insert Cable into Connector

Remove the protective caps from the end of the splice barrels. Insert the prepared cable into the connector until it stops. The insertion length should approximate the stripped length of the cable.

  3. Crimp the Connection

Refer to Table 1 for the correct installing die and the number of compressions required. Insert the connector into the appropriate die. Compress the connector between the markings, starting near the center and working towards the end. Use of improper installing dies may result in a malfunctioning connection.

  4. Finish and Insulate

After crimping, remove any sharp edges, flashes, or burrs from the connection. Insulate the connection following the methods specified in Table 1 for your specific product and cable size.

  5. Safety Precautions

WARNING: Risk of shock. Disconnect power before installation. Do not crimp on energized wires. Wear appropriate chemical resistant gloves, clothing, and safety glasses with side shields or goggles. Ensure installation is performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.
