How to Install the 60554 Two-Way Splicer

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the 60554 two-way splicer for aluminum or copper cables.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound

  1. Prepare the cable

Strip the insulation from the cable to the length specified in Table 1. Ensure not to nick the cable strands.

  2. Apply joint compound

Smear a thin layer of ALUMA-SHIELD® Aluminum Joint Compound on the stripped cable. Clean the cable with a wire brush or emery cloth to remove any surface oxide.

  3. Insert the cable

Remove the protective caps from the splice barrels and insert the cable into the connector until it stops, ensuring the insertion length matches the stripped length.

  4. Crimp the connector

Using the appropriate crimping die as specified in Table 1, compress the connector starting near the center and working towards the end. Ensure to follow the number of compressions required.

  5. Inspect the connection

After crimping, remove any sharp edges, flashes, or burrs from the connection to ensure safety.

  6. Insulate the connection

Insulate the connection using the methods specified in Table 1 to ensure a secure and safe installation.
