How to Install T&B Liquidtight Connectors

This guide provides the proper method for installing T&B liquidtight connectors with flexible metallic conduit, ensuring high performance and reliability. Always disconnect power before installation and wear appropriate hand and eye protection. Installation should be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw (32 Tooth/ln. no. set, sharp), Power band saw (24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set), Smooth jaw wrench, Torque wrench, Metal jig (optional)

Supplies needed:

T&B Liquidtight Connector, Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B 140 series locknuts (if not included), T&B 5260 series sealing gaskets (if not included), PVC cement (if needed for PVC coated connectors)

  1. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the flexible conduit with a clean, square end. For best results, use a metal jig, a 32 Tooth/ln. sharp hacksaw, or a power band saw with a 24-32 Tooth/ln. wavy set at no more than 400 feet per minute. Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting.

  2. Assemble the Liquidtight Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, 9000 series, and PVC coated 3300 series connectors, first slide the gland nut onto the conduit. Next, slide on the nylon sealing ring. Finally, thread in the Safe Edge™ Cone. If installing a PVC coated connector, tighten with a smooth jaw wrench; if gouging occurs exposing metal, apply PVC cement.

  3. Install the Connector into the Knockout Box

Insert the body of the liquidtight connector through the knockout from the outside of the box. For knockout applications, secure the connector using T&B 140 series locknuts and 5260 series sealing gaskets (purchase separately if not included). Ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box. For 7000 and 9000 series, order the locknut separately. For 'Space Saver' Chase® connector assemblies, lock-up can be made by tightening the Chase® Nipple to the body or by turning the body onto the Chase® Nipple.

  4. Tighten the Connector to Specification

    Tighten the gland nut and locknut to the specified torque values. Refer to the torque table provided in the documentation: 3/8" (200 lb.-in.), 1/2" (300 lb.-in.), 3/4" (500 lb.-in.), 1" (700 lb.-in.), 1 1/4" (1000 lb.-in.), 1 1/2" (1200 lb.-in.), 2" (1600 lb.-in.), 2 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 3" (1600 lb.-in.), 3 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 4" (1600 lb.-in.).
