How to Install the 200 ECS Jacketed Cable Sealing Kit
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing the 200 ECS Jacketed Cable Sealing Kit on jacketed concentric neutral shielded cable with an O.D. range of 0.80”-1.50” (20-38mm). Ensure all apparatus are de-energized and inspect all components for damage and compatibility before beginning installation.
Estimated time: 30m
Tools needed:
Wire strippers, Measuring tape, Utility knife
Supplies needed:
Cold Shrink Tube, Mastic Strip, Vinyl tape, Elbow, joint or terminator
- Prepare Cable Jacket and Apply First Mastic Strip
De-energize all apparatus before starting. Remove the cable jacket for a distance of 2-1/2” (64mm) more than the cutback length specified for the cable semicon in the manufacturer’s instructions. Wrap the first mastic strip around the cable jacket 0” to 1/4” (0-6mm) from the end, stretching as needed to completely encircle the cable. Bend the ground wires back over the mastic and along the jacket, pressing them into the mastic. Ensure ground wires do not touch each other when pressed into the mastic to allow a complete seal around each wire and prevent water ingress.
- Apply Second Mastic Strip and Prepare Cable End
Wrap the second mastic strip over the ground wires, above the previously applied mastic, pressing the mastic to fill any voids. Overwrap the mastic and wires tightly with two half-lapped layers of vinyl tape for a width of approximately 1-1/2” (40mm). Prepare the cable end according to the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific elbow, joint, or terminator being used.
- Install Cold Shrink Tube and Connector
Slide the cold shrink tube onto the cable with the loose end facing away from where the connector will be. Install the elbow, joint, or terminator following its manufacturer’s instructions.
- Apply Third Mastic Strip and Shrink Tube
For 200amp products, wrap the third mastic strip, overlapping both the product end and the cable adapter. Overwrap this mastic with two half-lapped layers of vinyl tape. Pull the loose end from the back of the cold shrink tube and unwind the cord in a clockwise direction until the plastic core is flush with the end of the cold shrink tube. Slide the cold shrink tube into its final position, ensuring it overlaps the elbow or joint end by at least 1 inch (25mm) for a proper seal, and continue to unwind the cord clockwise until the tube fully collapses.
- Connect Concentric Neutral Wires
Connect the elbow, joint, or terminator to the concentric neutral wires following the manufacturer’s instructions for the specific product. Ensure secure and proper connections to the system ground.
