How to Install a Jacketed Metal Clad Cable Connector (Sabre Tooth Type)

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing a Sabre Tooth type jacketed metal clad cable connector, ensuring proper cable preparation and secure assembly. Always de-energize circuits before beginning.

Estimated time: 30m

Tools needed:

Cable cutter, Utility knife, Torque wrench

Supplies needed:

Jacketed Metal Clad Cable (Teck or jacketed MC type), Jacketed Metal Clad Cable Connector (e.g., 10475)

  1. De-energize Circuits and Prepare the Cable

CAUTION: RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK. Before installing, verify that all circuits are de-energized. Ring-cut the cable squarely and remove the outer jacket and armor to the desired length. Ensure the outer jacket is flush with the end of the armor. CAUTION: Do not nick or cut the conductor insulation during this process.

  2. Install Connector Components onto Cable

Slide the gland nut, retainer ring, and neoprene bushing over the prepared cable in the correct order, ensuring they are oriented for final assembly.

  3. Insert the Sabre Tooth Grounding Sleeve

Insert the point of the Sabre Tooth grounding sleeve fully over the cable armor and beneath the outer jacket. Ensure it is securely positioned.

  4. Seat the Neoprene Bushing

Slide the neoprene bushing along the cable until it seats firmly into the bevel on the grounding sleeve, creating a seal.

  5. Assemble the Connector Body and Gland Nut

Place the connector body over the grounding sleeve. Then, thread the gland nut onto the connector body, ensuring it engages properly.

  6. Tighten the Gland Nut

Tighten the gland nut to the specified torque. For a 1-1/2 inch hub size (common for 10475), tighten to 1200 in-lbs. Refer to the torque table for other hub sizes if applicable.
