Overview

The ABB 040-5352 1/2" Liquidtight Connector is a 90-degree insulated conduit joint designed for flexible metal conduit systems. This UL Listed fitting ensures a secure, sealed connection against liquids and dust while providing grounding continuity per NEC 351-9. The Duraplated finish delivers enhanced corrosion resistance, making it ideal for demanding industrial environments where moisture and corrosive conditions are present. Each package includes 25 pieces, offering a cost-effective solution for multiple connection points in electrical installations. The 90-degree configuration simplifies bends and transitions, reducing installation time and potential stress on the conduit. This connector is suitable for hazardous locations including Class I Division 2, Class II Divisions 1 & 2, and Class III Divisions 1 & 2 per NEC 500-2(a). The insulated design adds an extra layer of safety by preventing accidental contact with energized components within the conduit system. Compatible with flexible metal conduit sizes up to 1/2 inch, this connector features a durable metal construction with a PVC-coated body for superior protection in corrosive environments. The overlapping sleeve design provides additional sealing, while the ground cone compresses metallic convolutions to ensure low-impedance grounding and high raceway holding power. The sealing ring grips and seals at both leading and trailing edges without abrading the raceway jacket, and the hardened steel locknut ensures a secure, reusable connection.

How to Install T&B 040-5352 Liquidtight Flexible Metallic Conduit Connectors

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for the proper installation of T&B liquidtight flexible metallic conduit connectors, ensuring high performance and reliability for electrical applications.

Estimated time: 15m

Tools needed:

Hacksaw, Metal jig (optional), Power band saw (optional), Smooth jaw wrench, Safety glasses, Work gloves

Supplies needed:

Liquidtight flexible metallic conduit, T&B 040-5352 liquidtight connector, T&B 140 series locknut (for knockout applications, purchased separately), T&B 5260 series sealing gasket (for knockout applications, purchased separately), PVC cement (if using PVC coated connectors and gouging occurs)

  1. Prioritize Safety

Before beginning installation, read and understand all instructions and safety information. Disconnect all power to prevent risk of shock. This product must be installed by a qualified electrician in accordance with national and local electrical codes. Always wear hand protection and eye protection during installation.

  2. Prepare the Flexible Conduit

Cut the liquidtight flexible metallic conduit with a clean, square end. Use a metal jig, a sharp hacksaw with 32 teeth/inch, or a power band saw (24-32 teeth/inch, not more than 400 feet/minute) for best results. Do not use an abrasive wheel for cutting the conduit.

  3. Assemble the Connector Components

For 5000, 7000, and 9000 series connectors (including 040-5352), slide the gland nut onto the conduit, followed by the nylon sealing ring. Then, thread the Safe Edge™ Cone onto the conduit end. For PVC coated connectors, use the same assembly method.

  4. Install Connector into Knockout (if applicable)

If installing into a knockout box, position the connector body through the knockout. For standard applications, ensure the 'O' ring is correctly positioned on the outside of the box. Secure the connector to the box wall using a T&B 140 series locknut and a 5260 series sealing gasket (purchased separately). Note that for 7000 and 9000 series, the locknut must be ordered separately.

  5. Tighten the Gland Nut

    Tighten the gland nut onto the connector body to secure the conduit. Refer to the torque table for the recommended tightening torque based on the fitting's trade size: 3/8" (200 lb.-in.), 1/2" (300 lb.-in.), 3/4" (500 lb.-in.), 1" (700 lb.-in.), 1 1/4" (1000 lb.-in.), 1 1/2" (1200 lb.-in.), 2" (1600 lb.-in.), 2 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 3" (1600 lb.-in.), 3 1/2" (1600 lb.-in.), 4" (1600 lb.-in.). For PVC coated connectors, use a smooth jaw wrench to avoid gouging; if gouging occurs exposing metal, PVC cement is recommended.
