Guarding Against Cyber Threats

"I know cyber-attacks are a concern, but I'm not worried about it at the moment," said the president of an industrial company at a management meeting three and-a-half months before his company was held hostage by cyber thieves (the irony). For nearly six weeks, no one could access the company's servers, email, CRM, or its website that displayed verbal graffiti when someone would type in its URL/web address.
What happened? Aside from Murphy's law, chalk it up to a false sense of security coupled with the belief that cyber thieves only care about and target "big" corporations.
Rubbish. Statistically, small and medium sized businesses are especially vulnerable to cyber-attacks because those faceless cyber thieves lurking in the middle of the night know that the smaller the company, the less likely they are to be properly fortified to block a cyber-attack.
The vulnerability to cyberattacks are greater than ever thanks to runaway technologies (think A.I.). It makes it more worrisome for industrial companies needing to continually digitize their operations in their ongoing efforts to streamline production, enhance relationships with their customers, improve customer service experiences and optimize their marketing.
Digitization in any form opens doors to cyber-attacks, leading to devastation in the form of downtime, data loss, and immeasurable economic harm. It is precisely why businesses need to prioritize cybersecurity to safeguard their manufacturing processes. Cybersecurity solutions are key in preventing unauthorized access to industrial control systems (ICS) and thwarting data breaches that can damage reputations and cost a fortune in lost intellectual property (IP).
To stay safe, companies can also explore AI-powered cyber threat detection and comprehensive security solutions for IIoT systems.
