This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and configuring the HazLoc Vortex A/C Model VHL50160 to ensure effective cooling in hazardous locations.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, Wrench, Drill, Wire strippers
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, Vinyl tubing, Check valves, Cold air mufflers, Compressed air filter
- Select the installation location
Choose a flat horizontal or vertical surface on a Type 4X enclosure for mounting the HazLoc Vortex A/C, ensuring sufficient clearance for thermostats and air outlets.
- Mount the unit
Cut two 1 15/16" diameter holes in the enclosure at 4" centers. Insert the threaded portions of the HazLoc Vortex A/C into the holes and secure with 1-1/2" electrical locknuts from inside the enclosure.
- Attach the Check Valves
Connect the Check Valve assemblies to the cold air outlets of the HazLoc Vortex A/C, ensuring the arrows on the valves point away from the unit.
- Install the Cold Air Mufflers
Mount the Cold Air Mufflers inside the enclosure using the supplied mounting clamps. Ensure they are positioned correctly for optimal airflow.
- Connect the vinyl tubing
Cut lengths of the supplied 5/8" vinyl tubing to connect the Check Valves to the Cold Air Mufflers, ensuring no sharp bends or kinks in the tubing.
- Install the compressed air filter
Connect the compressed air filter to the inlet of the HazLoc Vortex A/C using 3/8" pipe, ensuring the filter is positioned in a non-hazardous area.
- Connect the compressed air supply
Attach the compressed air supply to the inlet of the air filter, ensuring the air pressure is regulated between 90 to 100 psig.
- Verify installation
Check all connections for leaks and ensure the unit is securely mounted. Follow any necessary startup procedures for the purge system.
