Installation guide for mounting and wiring the VHL09160 HazLoc Vortex A/C for industrial control cabinets.
Estimated time: 1h
Tools needed:
Screwdriver, 1" open end wrench, 11/16" wrench, Drill, Hole saw (1-15/16" or 1-1/2" knockout size)
Supplies needed:
Mounting screws, 3/8" schedule 40 pipe, 5/8" (16 mm) ID vinyl tubing, Check Valve assembly, Cold Air Muffler, Muffler Mounting Clamp, Plastic push-rivets
- Prepare Enclosure for Mounting
Determine the mounting location on the top or side of the enclosure. If side mounting, ensure the compressed air inlet points up or the shroud faces down. Cut a 1-15/16" (49 mm) diameter hole in the selected flat surface of the enclosure. Deburr any sharp edges around the hole.
- Mount the HazLoc Vortex A/C Unit
Insert the threaded portion of the HazLoc Vortex A/C into the prepared hole. From inside the enclosure, screw the 1-1/2" electrical locknut onto the threads, compressing the sealing gasket securely. Ensure sufficient clearance for internal components and that the mounting footprint is fully supported.
- Install Check Valve and Cold Air Muffler
Attach the Check Valve assembly to the cold air outlet of the HazLoc Vortex A/C inside the enclosure, ensuring the arrow on the valve points away from the unit. Mount the Cold Air Muffler inside the enclosure near the HazLoc Vortex A/C using the supplied clamp and tape, or drill holes for permanent mounting with push-rivets. Clean mounting surfaces for secure adhesion.
- Connect Cold Air Ducting
Cut a length of 5/8" (16 mm) ID vinyl tubing to connect the Check Valve outlet to the Cold Air Muffler. Attach securely to both hose barbs, ensuring no sharp bends or kinks. Connect additional vinyl tubing to the other barb on the Muffler for air distribution inside the enclosure. If plugging the tubing end, punch at least 25 x 1/8" (3 mm) diameter holes for air escape. Use supplied clamps to secure tubing.
- Connect Compressed Air Supply
Connect the compressed air filter to the compressed air inlet on the HazLoc Vortex A/C using 3/8" pipe. Install the filter close to the unit in a location not exceeding 125°F (52°C), noting the air flow direction arrow on the filter. Connect the compressed air supply to the inlet of the air filter. Ensure compressed air pressure is between 90-100 psig (6-7 bar) and temperature does not exceed 120°F (49°C).
- Verify Installation and Operation
Verify that the Check Valve is suitable for preventing air leakage from the enclosure. Ensure all pipe connections are tight. Follow purge system startup procedures before applying electric power to the enclosure. Contact nVent HOFFMAN if assistance is needed.
