Overview

The nVent Vortex Cooler Type 12 (SKU: VC0416012) delivers refrigerant-free, compressed-air-powered cooling for industrial enclosures. Rated at 400 BTU/hr (117W) from a 115V, 50/60Hz supply, this unit uses the Ranque-Hilsch effect to separate compressed air into hot and cold streams, producing consistent, dry cooling without moving parts or refrigerants. The solid-state design ensures low maintenance and high reliability in harsh environments. Constructed from brushed aluminum with a polycarbonate exterior, it meets NEMA Type 12 standards and operates in ambient temperatures up to 175°F (80°C). A five-micron airline filter, integrated thermostat, and cold air muffler are included. Installation requires only an 80-100 PSIG compressed air supply. Ideal for manufacturing, oil & gas, and automation applications where space is limited and compressed air is available. Top, side, and front mounting options provide installation flexibility in confined areas.
  • Five-micron airline filter, 115 V solenoid
  • Thermostat
  • Ducting kit
  • Cooling capacities to 2500 BTU/Hr. (733 W)
  • Top, side, and front mounting options for confined spaces; operates up to 175°F (80°C)

How to Install the VC0416012 VCool System

This guide provides step-by-step instructions for installing and setting up the VC0416012 VCool System for cooling industrial cabinets using filtered compressed air.

Estimated time: 45m

Tools needed:

Screwdriver, Wire strippers, Multimeter

Supplies needed:

Mounting screws, Terminal connectors, Locknut, Ducting kit

  1. Prepare the enclosure

Cut a 1-1/8” hole in the enclosure using a suitable cutting tool. Ensure the edges are smooth to avoid damage.

  2. Install the VCool unit

Insert the VC0416012 VCool unit into the cut-out hole and secure it with the provided locknut. Ensure it is firmly attached.

  3. Connect the ducting kit

Perforate the ducting kit with several 1/8” holes and secure it to the interior of the enclosure. Attach the ducting kit to the cold outlet of the VCool.

  4. Wire the components

Connect the compressed air filter, solenoid valve, and thermostat to the VC0416012. Wire the thermostat directly to the solenoid valve.

  5. Connect the compressed air supply

Connect the compressed air supply to the filter. Ensure that the filter and solenoid valve are installed in a location where the temperature does not exceed 125°F (52°C).

  6. Verify installation

Check all connections for security and ensure that the VCool unit is properly mounted. Use a multimeter to verify electrical connections if necessary.
