How to Install and Modify QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for cutting, bending, and joining sections of QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray to create custom installations, including forming bends and elbows, and proper support.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90° Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK), Cable tray supports
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to cut the QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and make the cut at an angle away from the new end. Ensure one clean cut to minimize sharp edges that could snag wire and to help protect against corrosion. Repeat for all side and bottom wires as needed for your desired configuration.
- Form a 90-Degree Bend
At the desired bend location, cut the side and bottom wires according to the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend the tray up until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for the tray width.
- Form an Elbow Connection
To create an elbow, cut the side wires from each tray section following the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Align the wires of the two trays at the desired angle. Fasten the tray sections using two QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers for each joint. For an adjustable angle, use one Splice Kit and one Splice Washer, centered, ensuring each splice washer covers two tray bottom wires.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install straight section supports at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Place supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and ensure the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Add additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to maintain stability and integrity.
