How to Cut, Bend, and Connect QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for modifying and joining QUICK TRAY PRO™ cable tray sections to create custom cable management pathways for various installations.

QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections (e.g., QTPRWB6), QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kit, QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washer, QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK 10 in. Universal Splice Bar (as needed), QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar (as needed)
- Plan Configuration and Mark Cuts
Before cutting, determine the required cable tray configuration, including straight runs, bends, elbows, or tees. Review the specific cutting patterns provided in the manual for your desired tray size and modification. Clearly mark the wires that need to be cut or removed according to the pattern.
- Cut Cable Tray Wires
Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) for precision cuts. Start with the top side wire, positioning the cutting jaws on the cradle wire. Make the cut at an angle away from the new end to minimize sharp edges and protect against corrosion. Repeat for all remaining side wires. Turn the tray over and cut the bottom wires from the underside, resting the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cutting at an angle away from the new end. Ensure each cut is clean to eliminate the need for grinding or touch-up.
- Form a 90-Degree Bend
To create a 90-degree bend, first cut all the side wires at the desired bend location according to the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Next, turn the tray onto its uncut side. Smoothly bend the tray upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend by fastening it with QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Connect Tray Sections
To join two cable tray sections, such as for an elbow or a straight splice, align the wires of the two trays at the desired angle. Fasten the tray sections together using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. Ensure each splice washer is positioned over two tray bottom wires for a secure connection. For specific connections like tees or width reductions, incorporate appropriate splice bars (Universal or T-Connection) as required by the design.
