How to Modify and Connect QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides step-by-step instructions for modifying, bending, and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO cable tray sections to create custom cable management installations. Learn to cut sections, form bends, and assemble various junctions.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman Side Action Bolt Cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO Cable Tray Straight Sections, Splice Kits (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washers (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bars (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90-degree Splice Bars (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK)
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter to make precision cuts. Identify the specific wires to be removed based on your desired configuration or bend pattern. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut the top, remaining side, and bottom wires at an angle away from the new end. Ensure each cut is clean to minimize sharp edges that could snag cables and to help protect the new cut from corrosion.
- Form a 90-Degree Bend
At the intended bend location, cut all side wires according to the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray onto its uncut side and smoothly bend it upwards until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers, as indicated for your tray width, to ensure stability.
- Connect Tray Sections and Junctions
Join tray sections, turns, bends, and tees using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers. For straight connections, elbows, and 90-degree tees, typically use two splice kits and washers per joint. For Y-junctions or width reductions, use QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK Universal Splice Bars as needed, securing them with splice kits and washers. Ensure all connections are firm and stable.
- Support the Cable Tray Installation
Install supports for straight sections at typical 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Place supports within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections, and ensure the span between supports does not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around all bends and wherever the cable tray changes levels to maintain the integrity and stability of the entire installation.
