How to Install and Configure QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray Sections
This guide provides instructions for cutting, bending, and connecting QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections to create custom cable management pathways. Learn to modify straight sections into various configurations like bends, elbows, and tees.
Estimated time: 2h
Tools needed:
Hoffman side action bolt cutter
Supplies needed:
QUICK TRAY PRO™ Cable Tray sections, Splice Kit (QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK), Splice Washer (QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK), Universal Splice Bar (QTPUS10/QTPUS10BLK), T-Connection or 90o Splice Bar (QTP90TKIT/QTP90TKITBLK), Mounting hardware for supports
- Cut Cable Tray Sections
Determine the required cuts for your installation, whether for length, bends, or junctions. Always use the Hoffman side action bolt cutter (QTPBC) for precision cuts. Position the cutting jaws on the cradle wire and cut at an angle away from the new end. Make one clean cut to eliminate grinding or touch-up. For bends, review the specific cutting pattern for the desired tray size and bend type, removing the red areas shown in the diagrams.
- Form 90-Degree Bends (If Required)
At the desired bend location, cut all side wires according to the specific cutting pattern for your tray width. Turn the tray on the uncut side and smoothly bend it until the inside edges closest to the uncut side meet. Secure the bend using QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers at the indicated locations for your tray width.
- Connect Tray Sections Using Splice Kits
To join straight sections, or to secure bends, elbows, and tees, align the tray sections. Use QTPBNWK/QTPBNWKBLK Splice Kits and QTPSSW3/QTPSSW3BLK Splice Washers to fasten the sections together. For elbows, align the wires at the desired angle and use two splice kits and washers for each joint. For adjustable elbows, use one splice kit and washer, ensuring it is centered over two tray bottom wires.
- Install Cable Tray Supports
Install straight section supports typically at 6-foot (1.5m) centers. Ensure supports are placed within 24 inches (610mm) of any splice on straight sections. The span between supports must not exceed the length of the tray. Provide additional supports around bends and wherever the cable tray level changes to ensure stability and proper load distribution.
